Did ESPN Accidentally Reveal OG Anunoby’s Injury Status? Knicks Fans React

Knicks' OG Anunoby injury update

The New York Knicks survived a nail-biter in Game 2 against the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night, walking away with a 108-102 victory and a commanding 2-0 series lead.

But the win came with a major injury concern. OG Anunoby left the game in the final minutes with an apparent right leg injury, and the Knicks’ front office offered virtually no clarity on his status.

Then ESPN’s injury page quietly told a different story.

Anunoby was electric in Game 2, delivering 24 points, five rebounds, four steals, and a block across 37 minutes before hobbling off the court with roughly 2:31 left in the fourth quarter after grabbing the back of his right thigh following a dunk attempt.

But while the team stayed silent, ESPN’s official NBA injury page updated OG Anunoby’s status to “Day-To-Day,” with no reporter-confirmed diagnosis attached.

One fan was quick to share the image, captioning it: “He’s listed day to day!”

Another posted a more measured take: “Potentially good news: OG Anunoby is currently listed as ‘Day to Day’ on ESPN.”

One fan even tied the update directly to their championship belief: “I am now at the point where if this OG thing turns out to only be day-to-day I think this might actually be the year for the Knicks.”

Knicks fanpage account KnicksMuse moved quickly to pump the brakes. Their official page posted a direct clarification: “This means nothing. ESPN/CBS Sports just list it this way as there’s been no clear answer.”

It was a necessary reality check. ESPN and CBS Sports are known to default injured players to “day-to-day” as a placeholder when no official team designation has been filed yet.

Knicks Fans React With Cautious Optimism

Despite the warning, fans weren’t fully ready to let go of the hope. One noted: “Could just be an automatic website thing, imo no way this isn’t reported by a reporter or Shams. This is big news.”

Another added a timeline angle: “For those of you on OG watch, the East Finals would be May 19. Grade 1 would be considered day-to-day and likely 1 week out. Prayers for OG.”

A third simply prayed: “OG Anunoby (thigh contusion) day to day. Manifesting this tweet on my timeline for tomorrow. Don’t you dare take OG from us again… Good vibes being sent into the universe.”

One fan wrote with meme-level devotion: “KNICKS PRAYER CIRCLE 🙏 OG Anunoby Day-to-Day Missing 0-2 games.”

One fan put the collective Knicks fanbase’s mood into one sentence: “Og Day to Day on ESPN, please let that be the official announcement.”

As James Edwards of The Athletic tweeted: “FYI: The Knicks, or any team, playing tomorrow aren’t required to send in their injury report until 5pm today.” So we could expect clarity on the injury soon.

Anunoby has a history of lower-body injuries in the playoffs, notably missing multiple games with a hamstring strain during the 2024 Eastern Conference Semifinals against Indiana.

With the Knicks holding a 2-0 series cushion, there is breathing room. No one in New York wants to see their best two-way player sidelined again when a Conference Finals berth is this close.
