Unless the Detroit Pistons are convinced that Jalen Duren has reached his ceiling, the veteran center is likely to land some lucrative offers from his team this upcoming offseason.

Although the Pistons didn’t extend Duren while they could before the 2025-2026 NBA season, the Pistons’ President of Basketball Operations, Trajan Langdon, made it clear that bringing Duren back is a priority.

Duren has publicly stated his interest in staying with the Pistons long-term as well.

A rough playoff series in round one against the Orlando Magic clouded judgment on the big man. Despite putting up career-best numbers in the regular season and earning All-Star honors for the first time, many believed that Duren was losing money in each performance he handed in.

Fortunately for Duren, the Pistons are doing well enough to keep playing. Each additional game is another opportunity for Duren to drive up his value.

Pistons Rival Pushed To Pursue Jalen Duren

The Pistons have plenty of leverage with Duren. If there isn’t a crowded market, that helps Detroit in negotiations.

But if Duren signs an offer sheet he likes with another team, the Pistons can simply match it and bring him back. Bleacher Report’s Grant Hughes recently pushed the Chicago Bulls to pursue Duren.

“Boasting as much as $58 million in cap space, easily the most in the league, the Bulls could throw a max offer sheet of four years and $184 million at Detroit Pistons center Jalen Duren and have a reasonable hope of the incumbent team not matching. Offer sheets tie up a team’s cap space until they’re matched, so the Bulls would be taking a calculated risk here. But what do they have to lose?” via BR

This would be an interesting scenario for both sides.

If the Pistons were to lose Duren to the Bulls, it might sting. However, the young center wouldn’t be boosting an immediate playoff contender. The Bulls aren’t expected to pose a big threat in the Eastern Conference, as they are in a rebuild.

On Chicago’s side, they take the risk in order to try to acquire a proven young center for the long haul. If it doesn’t work out in free agency, then the Bulls at least put pressure on their rival by dictating how much a risky signing costs.

Duren’s camp will more than likely welcome offers from the Bulls or any other cap-rich teams. This will be his first post-rookie-deal payday, and the goal is to get as much as possible on the open market.
