Colin Cowherd was discouraged by the Miami Dolphins

The board appeared to be falling in favor of the Miami Dolphins during Day 1 of the 2026 NFL Draft. At the time of Miami’s scheduled No. 11 selection, Caleb Downs and Reuben Bain Jr., both of whom were considered top-10 prospects, had fallen to the Dolphins. However, Miami opted to go in a different direction and take the top offensive tackle on their board, Kadyn Proctor.

Some Dolphins fans reacted with anger. Those fans likely won’t change their minds after hearing from Fox Sports One analyst Colin Cowherd give his thoughts on Miami’s first selection.

Colin Cowherd Shares True Feelings About Miami Dolphins Draft

During The Herd, Colin Cowherd said regarding the Miami Dolphins’ Day 1 activities “I was so discouraged by what the Dolphins did. There are six tackles I liked, they picked the one I didn’t, Kadyn Proctor, who Nick Saban even threw shade at, ‘He’s not a self-starter.’ If you said that about one of your kids, ‘I love my son, but he’s not much of a self-starter,’ you’d know what you’re saying. Also, offensive lineman that struggle with weight, ask the Jets, they always become those guys that leave you a little disappointed.”

Regarding Miami’s second pick Chris Johnson, Cowherd added, “They went and got a corner later, who’s kind of a versatile guy. That’s not a bad pick.”

Cowherd was later joined by Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, who said on the upside of Proctor, “He is super talented, and here is where the Green Bay background of Jeff Hafley and Jon-Eric Sullivan comes in, traits. Big conference, he’s from the University of Alabama, he’s big, he’s long, he looks like he was made in a lab to play left tackle. So, if you hit on him, it’s a home run, no question about it. To me, this is like taking Laremy Tunsil, if you hit on it, it is a grand slam, but there is some risk involved.”

Day 2 Miami Dolphins Activities

Perhaps some Dolphins fans, who like Cowherd, were discouraged, found some hope once again following their Day 2 selections. While the team drafted two players who were not among the consensus top players available in wide receiver Caleb Douglas and tight end Will Kacmarek, they also drafted one of the best value picks in wide receiver Chris Bell.

Bell, who the Dolphins drafted with the No. 94 pick in the draft, was ranked as the 55th-best prospect by The Ringer’s NFL Draft analyst Todd McShay. Regarding Bell, McShay wrote:

“Bell is a physically gifted, big-play receiver whose traits and flashes of production contrast sharply with his rawness and inconsistency, making him a true boom-or-bust prospect. A four-year player at Louisville, he showed steady statistical growth, culminating in 917 yards in just 11 games in 2025 before a late-season ACL tear (which clouds his availability for the start of his rookie year).

At his best, Bell looks the part: He’s got a strong build, big hands, impressive body control, and real run-after-the-catch explosiveness with a noticeable second gear. He catches cleanly and transitions smoothly upfield, showing strength through contact and the ability to create chunk plays. His hands improved in 2025 (just three drops), though his contested-catch success (50 percent) doesn’t fully match his physical profile.”
