The brother of Browns QB Shedeur Sanders took aim at a prominent team reporter.

Shedeur Sanders‘ family is pushing back — and not quietly.

Shilo Sanders, the older brother of Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders, directed a sexist comment at Cleveland.com Browns reporter Mary Kay Cabot on Wednesday after she broke the news that Deshaun Watson had taken an early lead in the team’s quarterback competition.

Shilo commented, “Go make a sandwich, Mary,” on an Instagram post featuring Cabot’s report, drawing immediate backlash.

Cabot had reported that Watson emerged from the Browns’ voluntary minicamp last week with an edge over Shedeur Sanders in the two-man quarterback competition and has the inside track to be named QB1.

She followed up the report with a personal opinion posted to X: “With my breaking news here that Deshaun Watson has taken the lead over Shedeur Sanders in the Browns QB competition and has the inside track to win it, I think they should declare him QB1 ASAP and let the 1st team offense start to cook.”

With the ongoing debate, Shilo Sanders expanded his remarks in a video during a stream.

“This is to Mary Kay,” Shilo said. “If you’re gonna be a reporter, report facts. Have your opinion and your opinion is always something hateful to Shedeur. It makes it seem like an agenda that you have going on. There are plenty of women who take it seriously and actually do homework and study the game, and get the statistics right, and get the news right. But with you, there’s so much emotion that I don’t want you to make women look bad when it comes to reporting…we don’t care about what you think is gonna happen.”

Cabot declined to engage with Shilo’s criticism and instead reflected on the broader impact of her career.

“I know so many women who have joined the football world, especially because of some of the things I’ve been able to do over the years. I’m happy about that,” Cabot said Thursday on Cleveland’s 92.3 The Fan.

“I’m just happy that I’ve been able to help set the tone and open some doors in that way and I know that will continue. That’s just how I feel about that. … I really do believe that I have been an inspiration for lots of women and young girls to know that you can go out there and do a good job in a man’s world and take on all of that that comes with that,” Cabot added.

Browns Yet to Make Official QB Decision

The Browns have yet to tip their hand on what they’re thinking about the quarterback situation. Browns’ head coach, Todd Monken, has declined to publicly hand anyone the starting job.

“Well, let’s just talk about what competition means at every position,” Monken said. “Every player that’s going to be a part of our roster is going to be competing, right? … There has to be some form of a depth chart per say. Everybody has a chance to compete. They just, they’re not always going to get equal reps, if that makes sense. You know, it’s what a competition is. Every guy that’s in training camp, every guy that’s part of our roster, the amount of reps they get — that’s to be determined.”

Monken hopes to declare — or at least identify — his starter by the end of mandatory minicamp in June.

Watson, 30, missed all of 2025 recovering from a twice-torn Achilles. He drew more first-team reps than Sanders during voluntary minicamp, per Cabot, and the Browns value his ability to process a new offense quickly.

Sanders was a fifth-round pick in the 2025 draft. He went 3-4 as a starter in seven games. Sanders earned a Pro Bowl nod despite throwing more interceptions (10) than touchdown passes (seven), completing 56.6 percent of his passes. The Browns are scheduled to open OTAs on May 19.
