New England Patriots trade target and Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A. J. Brown deactivated his X account on Sunday afternoon. NESN.com’s Evan Cormier reported this.

This move would seem as though it marks the end of Brown’s tenure with the Eagles. We could see Brown traded by Monday at 4:00 PM, marking a new chapter in his NFL career. Although nothing is finalized in terms of the deal just yet, deactivating his social media is a potential sign that things may be happening.

In the meantime, he is establishing a clean slate, quite literally.

Patriots Target Had Strong Run With Eagles

Brown immediately made an impact in his first season with the Eagles. He recorded 88 receptions for 1,496 yards and 11 touchdowns, averaging 17 yards per catch. He exceeded 1,000 receiving yards in every single season he played for Philadelphia. The 2022 season was a solid start, as he broke a franchise record by recording 1.496 receiving yards.

Brown was just getting started as he headed into the 2023 season. He set an all-time NFL record by recording 125-plus receiving yards in six consecutive games. This surpassed a record set by Calvin Johnson. His 106 receptions were the most catches ever by a wide receiver in Eagles history. Brown ended up recording 106 catches for 1,456 yards and seven touchdowns that year. He joined teammate Devonta Smith as the first wide receiver tandem in Eagles history to record back-to-back seasons with over 1, 000 receiving yards.

Patriots Buzz Has Picked Up In Last Day

There have been several rumors throughout the course of the last 24 hours that hint at a potential deal getting done. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler noted that the organization is confident that it can get a deal done for Brown. Others around the league have been discussing compensation and what they believe is fair for a player of Brown’s caliber. Either way, there has been a ton of buzz surrounding what it will take to get a deal done for the playmaker.

Potential Deal Would Be Cherry On Top Of Offseason

Brown would give the Patriots a true playmaking receiver and a top option for quarterback Drake Maye. The organization has been hard at work over the course of the offseason, helping remake the wide receiver room. They sent Green Bay Packers standout Romeo Doubs to a four-year $60 million deal. Now, they can add Brown as the top receiver to complete the room.

The playmaker would also allow for continuity within the offense. The Patriots were able to get a 1,000-yard season out of receiver Stefon Diggs in 2025. He was the first 1,000-yard receiver for the Patriots since Julian Edelman in 2019. Brown can provide that same production for New England, and is a bit younger at age 29. The receiver could grow with the rest of New England’s offense and help them capitalize on a potential Super Bowl window.

This move would be big for the Patriots for several reasons. For one, that window would be opened even further for the Patriots to make several more runs at a title. Secondly, Brown and free will would reunite and be a tandem once again.

Now, everybody is sitting back and waiting. After months of speculation, one of the NFL offseason’s biggest storylines may finally be coming to a close.
