The fallout from Talladega’s massive “Big One” didn’t end when the smoke cleared — and Joey Logano made sure of that.
In the aftermath of the multi-car crash that collected more than two dozen drivers during Stage 2, Logano delivered one of the most candid and pointed assessments of superspeedway racing in its current form.
Speaking after the race, the two-time Cup Series champion didn’t hold back.
“Pick your poison. What do you want with this car?” Logano said. “You want to save fuel, or do you want to wreck? It seems like those are the two options right now.”

It was a blunt summary of what many drivers have hinted at in recent seasons — and it came just hours after a wreck that once again wiped out a massive portion of the field at Talladega Superspeedway.
Logano was collected in the crash and ultimately finished 39th, ending his day early after 114 laps.
The crash also highlighted a broader issue that has been building at superspeedways. With the field tightly packed and drivers relying heavily on pushes in the draft, even slight contact can quickly escalate into a race-ending incident.
That lack of control, combined with tight drafting and fuel-saving strategies, has created a difficult balance for drivers — one where aggression and conservation seem to exist on opposite ends of the spectrum.
And according to Logano, that balance is currently broken.

Sunday’s crash — which began when Wallace was pushed from behind and sent into the outside wall — quickly turned into a chain-reaction pileup with nowhere for trailing drivers to go.
Within seconds, the field stacked up.
Drivers deeper in the pack were left blinded by smoke and without a clear escape route, a familiar scene at superspeedways where inches and split-second decisions often determine outcomes.
The result was another “Big One” that reshaped the race entirely — and reignited debate about whether the current style of racing is putting drivers in impossible positions.
Logano’s remarks only added fuel to that conversation.
He made it clear that, in his view, drivers are being forced into a no-win scenario: either ride conservatively and sacrifice track position, or stay aggressive in the pack and risk being caught in a wreck that can end the day instantly.
It’s not just any driver raising these concerns.
Logano is one of the most experienced and accomplished superspeedway racers in the field, with a long track record of success in the draft.
That perspective adds weight to his assessment — especially in a style of racing where split-second decisions and tight margins often determine the outcome.
And after another chaotic finish at Talladega Superspeedway, his message was clear: the current balance of superspeedway racing is putting drivers in difficult positions with little margin for error.
At Talladega, the margin for error has always been razor thin.
But as Sunday’s “Big One” showed — and as Logano bluntly put it — the margin might be disappearing altogether.
Right now, drivers aren’t just racing each other.
They’re choosing between surviving … or getting caught in the next wreck.
