Anthony Volpe gets bleak outlook on future.

The poor Houston Astros have just been belittled with injuries to start the 2026 season. It’s almost to the point where it will be impossible to overcome the players lost so far. On the flip side, the New York Yankees are enjoying their best start to a season in quite some time, and it’s led to many fans having high hopes for this Yanks team.

Something that’s gaining a lot of traction on social media is a recent X post by ‘MLBExecutiveBurner’ that brings up the idea of the Astros trading Yordan Alvarez for various reasons:

“Yordan Alvarez at $26.8M per year through 2028 is the Trade Chip to reset the Astros. Still paying for the lost draft picks from sign stealing scandal. Plus, the picks relinquished to sign Christian Walker / Hader. Will get back a big haul.”

The piggyback of this post is that many MLB fans believe the Yankees are one of the few teams that could offer a haul big enough to land the Cuban slugger.

Okay, clearly, MLB fans are taking this post and having fun with it. A trade package that is just Anthony Volpe and Ryan McMahon surely wouldn’t complete a deal for Yordan Alvarez, but it got me thinking…. with all the Yankees’ assets, what could a proposed trade look like?

What Could an Astros-Yankees Trade Proposal for Yordan Alvarez Look Like?

Look, just about every Yankees fan out there wants Anthony Volpe out of the organization. After having lots of success to start this season, it’s clear New York doesn’t really need him.

So, if Yordan Alvarez is hypothetically made available this season, let’s have some fun and put together a trade package that the Houston Astros may consider:

Astros receive:

• SS Anthony Volpe
• OF Spencer Jones
• Pitching prospect Ben Hess
• SP Will Warren
• LHP Brock Selvidge
• SS Kaeden Kent

Yankees receive:

• Yordan Alvarez

Who says no to this deal? That’s three MLB-caliber players that the Astros receive, and three top-15 prospects in the Yankees’ farm system.

Shades of the Juan Soto trade a while back in terms of capital given up in a trade, but let’s face it, Anthony Volpe and Spencer Jones may never really see big-league time in the coming years, and who knows if those prospects will even pan out…
