The 2026 PGA Championship has arrived at Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania, where 156 players are competing for the Wanamaker Trophy. Eleven golfers from LIV Golf are in this week’s field, including major champions Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, and Dustin Johnson.

The tournament also comes as LIV Golf continues facing questions about its future. Reports about the league’s funding and long-term stability have continued circulating, while players like DeChambeau and Rahm have faced growing speculation about what could come next in their careers.

Meanwhile, golfers including Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, and Jordan Spieth enter the week chasing more major championship history.

LIV Golf Players Competing at the 2026 PGA Championship

Jon Rahm was asked about what he learned from the decision to leave the PGA Tour and join LIV Golf:

“That’s for me to know and that’s about that.” 💀

There are 11 LIV Golf players in this week’s field at Aronimink. The LIV Golf contingent at this year’s PGA Championship includes DeChambeau, who has made six cuts in eight career starts at the event and finished runner-up in 2024. Thomas Detry has made two cuts in four appearances, highlighted by a T4 finish in 2024, while Tyrrell Hatton has recorded nine made cuts in 11 PGA Championship starts with top-10 finishes in 2016 and 2018.

Dustin Johnson enters the week with 16 PGA Championship appearances, 11 made cuts, and a runner-up finish in 2019. Martin Kaymer, the 2010 PGA Championship winner, has made seven cuts in 16 starts at the tournament. Tom McKibbin is making his second appearance after finishing T50 in 2025.

Joaquin Niemann has made five cuts in eight PGA Championship starts and finished T8 last year, while David Puig has one made cut in two appearances with a best finish of T60 in 2025. Jon Rahm has made seven cuts in nine starts, with his best PGA Championship finish coming in 2018 when he tied for fourth.

Cameron Smith has made eight cuts in 10 appearances and recorded a T9 finish in 2023. Elvis Smylie returns after making the cut in his debut appearance last year, where he finished T72.

Notably absent from this year’s field are Phil Mickelson, who is reportedly dealing with personal matters, and Brooks Koepka, following his departure from LIV Golf earlier this year.

Bryson DeChambeau & Jon Rahm Face LIV Golf Questions

Questions about LIV Golf’s future continue following reports that Saudi funding for next season may not continue at current levels.

DeChambeau, whose LIV contract reportedly expires at the end of 2026, has already sparked speculation about a possible exit. Reports surfaced after The Masters that the former U.S. Open champion was seen speaking with PGA Tour officials.

There has also been speculation that DeChambeau could scale back competitive golf in favor of content creation opportunities.

Rahm, meanwhile, acknowledged last week that he remains tied to a long-term LIV contract.

When asked before the PGA Championship whether he regretted joining LIV Golf, Rahm did not give a direct answer, further fueling speculation about the league’s state.

Golf Channel Analyst Criticizes LIV Golf Leadership

Eamon Lynch of Golf Channel strongly criticized LIV Golf while discussing the circuit’s uncertain future.

“Asking me why it failed to catch on is like asking me to catch a snowflake out of a blizzard,” Lynch said.

“It was a dumb idea, it was badly executed, odious funding, it had incompetent leadership, unlikeable players, no respect for what fans appreciate or treasure about the game, no values other than cash, trigger happy on lawsuits, a victim mentality.”

Lynch continued by questioning whether the league can survive in its current form.

“What their prospects are going forward are kind of interesting. At this point Scott O’Neil is trying to sell a deck chair on the Titanic by telling you you are going to have a beautiful view of the iceberg when it comes,” Lynch said.

“I think it’s unlikely it would survive. I think it’s impossible it survives in its current form.”

He also referenced Rahm’s reported contract situation.

“So Rahm is facing the possibility that if they do cobble together a schedule and funding that he is going to have to play for pennies on the dollar and continue on LIV as he has no way out,” Lynch added.

Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler & Jordan Spieth Chase History at the PGA Championship

While LIV Golf’s future remains a topic of discussion, the PGA Championship field also includes several players pursuing major milestones.

McIlroy enters the week after defending his title at The Masters in April. The win marked his sixth major championship and strengthened momentum heading into Aronimink.

Scheffler, the defending PGA Championship winner and current world No. 1, skipped the Truist Championship before arriving at Aronimink seeking his fifth major title.

Spieth also enters the week with history on the line. A PGA Championship victory would make him just the seventh golfer to complete the career Grand Slam.
