After a three-run seventh inning, the Phillies caught a glimpse of what looked like their first win since April 14. However the now 16-9 Chicago Cubs, crushed their dreams with a bases loaded knock from Dansby Swanson in the bottom of the 10th inning.

With that loss, the Phillies have lost nine straight games are tied for the worst record in the MLB with the Kansas City Royals. They also are in last place in the National East, switching places with the New York Mets who just snapped a 12-game losing streak.

👎 Phillies have lost 9 straight games and tied for the WORST Record in MLB

The Phillies have lost nine in a row.

It’s their longest losing streak since a nine-game skid from Sept. 20-28, 2018. The Phillies haven’t lost 10 straight since an 11-game losing streak Sept. 4-14, 1999.

Adolis Garcia extended the game for the Phillies with a game-tying home run in the top of the ninth. MLB’s Paul Casella wrote on X that, “Adolis Garcia’s HR was the Phillies’ first game-tying pinch hit HR in the 9 inning in nearly 15 years. Last one: John Mayberry on Aug. 1, 2011 against the Rockies. Shane Victorino then hit a HR in the 10th to win it.”

While offensively, the Phillies played some of their best baseball, the Phillies went three up, three down in the 10th inning. And their pitching delivered the finishing blow by loading the bases.

Social Media Reactions to Phillies Losing Streak

Division rivals, the New York Mets, previously held the MLB’s longest losing streak with 12 games, until the finally defeated the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday. Mets fans can’t help, but laugh at the Phillies losing in Mets fashion.

Phillies just pulled a Mets

6 pitch top of the 10th no runs

@RealPHLFan: I can’t believe I picked the Phillies to go 92-70. I don’t know if they’re good enough to go 70-92.

@schwarbombz: All this just to get walked off. They’re done man this was the best they’ve gotten from their offense in like 2 weeks and they still lose.

@macdaddy1396: I take some responsibility in current #Phillies losing streak because I said last week I would trade any amount of Phillies losses for 16 @NHLFlyers wins.

@Phillies IT TIME FOR CHANGES TO SAVE THE SEASON

OUT – ROB THOMSON OUT – KEVIN LONG OUT – DAVE DUMBROSKI

And then start moving players Its time to RETOOL

Fans are outraged with the Phillies organization, calling for a “retool”. In hopes of firing manager Rob Thomson, president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski, and hitting coach Kevin Long.

Unfortunately for the Phillies, they make their way to Atlanta to face the NL East first-place Braves, and fans believe the losses will just keep pouring in.

The Phillies are absolutely getting swept by the Braves this weekend, so the 12-game losing streak is already a reality. The only question is how many more will they lose beyond that?

Phillies Best Pitcher Cristopher Sanchez Struggles In Loss vs. Cubs

In what Phillies fans thought was going to be the game that snapped the streak, their ace pitcher is unable to deliver. In 5.1 innings, Cristopher Sanchez gave up 12 hits, two home runs, and six runs.

Phillies beat writer, Matt Gleb, reports: “The 35 hits allowed by Sánchez over his last four starts are the most in any four-start stretch of his career.”

Nearly half of those 35 hits coming in today’s loss.

Prior to his abysmal start, Sanchez was the Phillies most dominant pitcher. He had a 1.59 ERA, with 39 strikeouts, only having given up 10 runs.

During the middle of Thursday’s game, a Philadelphia fan took to X to share that he was hopeful that the Phillies offense got them just enough of a spark to keep them momentum rolling.

Phillies are back. Win or lose Our best pitcher has one of the worst starts of his career and it won’t happen often If we’re tied 7-7 with a bad Sanchez start that’s impressive

Less than 30 minutes later, Dansby Swanson walked it off, sending the Phillies to Atlanta chasing their first win in 10 games.
