Sean Brady UFC

UFC welterweight contender Sean Brady called out Carlos Prates following his dominant win over Joaquin Buckley at UFC 328.

Brady absolutely dominated Buckley this past Saturday at UFC 328, earning 30-25, 30-25, and 30-27 scorecards as he put to rest any notion of something funny going on in the bout after tons of late money poured in on Buckley on fight day. For Brady, this is the win that he needed to show the MMA world that he is still one of the best on the planet at 170 lbs after Michael Morales brutally knocked him out in his last bout.

Sean Brady Calls Out Carlos Prates

Speaking to the media in the post-fight press conference following UFC 328, Brady was asked who he wanted to fight next. The 33-year-old Pennsylvanian said he is interested in fighting Prates, who is coming off an electric TKO win over Jack Della Maddalena at UFC Perth last weekend.

“I would fight Prates, 100 percent. I’ve asked for that fight before. Yeah, let’s do it,” Brady said (via MMAjunkie.com).

The UFC is going back to Brady’s hometown of Philadelphia in August for UFC 330. The main event of that card is expected to feature UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev putting his title on the line, though his opponent has not been decided yet. While Ian Machado Garry seems the most logical opponent based on having a recent win over Prates, the way Prates finished Della Maddalena could see him leapfrog past Machado Garry for the title shot. But if Prates doesn’t get the title fight, then perhaps he could fight Brady in the co-main event, instead.

Sean Brady Wants to Fight Up the UFC Rankings

Brady is the No. 6-ranked UFC welterweight, and after beating the No. 9-ranked Buckley, he believes that he deserves the chance to fight up the rankings. With Prates being ranked at No. 2, that would certainly be the step up in competition that Brady craves after steamrolling Buckley at UFC 328, though for Prates, it may not make sense to fight backwards after he destroyed Della Maddalena at UFC Perth.

“Everybody wants a title shot. I’d fight (Kamaru) Usman because he’s a former champion. I think that would make sense. I heard he’s going up to middleweight. I’ve fought back. I beat Leon Edwards – I was the No. 1 contender. I fought Morales – I just fought back again,” Brady said.

“I deserve to fight up so, we’ll see how it plays out. I would love to fight in Philly, but it’s got to make sense for me, man. I’m 33 years old. I’m getting better and better every time I go out there, and I want to be a UFC champion, and I’m just trying to inch my way toward that.”

It will be interesting to see how the UFC matchmakers decide to book all of these outstanding welterweight contenders. The 170 lbs weight class is as deep and interesting as it ever has been since the Georges St-Pierre days, and we’ll find out very soon who gets the title shot with Makhachev, which should help sort out the rest of the top 10 welterweights in turn.
