New England Patriots EVP of Player Personnel Eliot Wolf shared the latest on the rumors regarding Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown.

A potential New England Patriots-A. J. Brown trade has been a hot topic of the off-season for several months now. As we shift focus to the summer, they are not getting a better idea of what it may take for the Patriots to acquire Brown antitrade package. The Athletic’s Chad Graff discussed what he thinks it would take for Brown to be moved.

There have been varying reports on what many think it may take for the Philadelphia Eagles to move Brown. ESPN’s Adam Schefter said that he believes it would take at least a 2028 first-round selection. In order to get the deal done. Now, Graff offered two hypothetical trade packages in order for the Patriots to land their wide receiver target.

The two most likely packages for Brown seem to be a 2028 first-round pick or a 2027 second-round pick plus a player such as wide receiver Kayshon Boutte.

Multiple Reports On Patriots Target

There were updates on Wednesday as to where the Patriots could potentially stand in a trade. NFL insider Albert Breer believes that Eagles general manager Howie Roseman would not do a trade unless he doesn’t feel that he won the deal.

This certainly conflicts with the report that Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston suggested. Perry believes that the cost for Brown is going to be more of a second-round package. This would allow the Patriots to be able to keep their assets of a first-round pick and also be able to stockpile talent for the future.

Brown Would Be Major Upgrade For Patriots

Whatever the case may be, Brown would be a significant upgrade in the wide receiver room. The Patriots have already begun to upgrade the room in free agency. They signed Romeo Doubs. With that being said, Brown would be a significant addition to a room that needs a veteran playmaker. They had one last season and wide receiver Stefon Diggs. The latter was able to help the Patriots in a big way, becoming the first 1,000-yard receiver since Julian Edelman in 2019.

Whatever the case may be, it’s clear that draft capital is going to be important for getting a deal done. There seem to be questions surrounding what capital the Patriots will have to give up. Giving Kayshon Boutte to the Eagles would certainly be an intriguing asset. The latter is coming off a season that saw him record 33 receptions for 551 yards and six touchdowns. This was the best season of his career to this point. He could be worth taking a flyer on for the Eagles while his value is high.

It seems like the old NFL world is waiting for a deal to get done. The idea of Brown to the Patriots has been floated around many times. Now, it just seems to be about  narrowing down the compensation, as it relates to a potential deal. The Brown storyline has been dragged out for several months, and now is just about waiting and seeing when this deal gets done. The Eagles have held things close to the vest, and it’s been fascinating in a way to watch both sides navigate this. Now, it seems as though the waiting game begins in what has been a busy and active offseason across the entire league.
