The Minnesota Timberwolves are in a bind when it comes to Anthony Edwards' injury.

The Minnesota Timberwolves earned a victory over the Denver Nuggets in Game 4, but it happened in the worst way possible. Minnesota lost both Donte DiVincenzo and Anthony Edwards to injuries during the contentious matchup.

DiVincenzo sustained a season-ending Achilles’ injury, per ESPN’s Shams Charania. Edwards is expected to be sidelined for multiple weeks with a knee injury, putting his status for the remainder of the NBA playoffs in doubt.

Both of these unfortunate injuries are putting a strain on the Wolves roster, prompting fans to wonder if Minnesota could sign new players during the NBA playoffs. Unfortunately, the NBA playoff roster deadline on April 13, 2026, has already past which will prohibit Minnesota from making additional moves.

The Timberwolves and other teams are also well past the NBA trade deadline on February 5. This means the Wolves’ solution to addressing the team’s recent injuries will need to come from within their current roster.

Here’s what you need to know about the latest Timberwolves news and rumors amid the significant injury setbacks.

Can the Minnesota Timberwolves Sign New Players During the NBA Playoffs Amid Injuries to Anthony Edwards & Donte DiVincenzo?

Aside from the deadline, there are additional guidelines on what players can even be added to the playoff roster. A player would have needed to sign with their new team on April 12 to be eligible for the playoff roster, per HoopsRumors.com’s Luke Adams.

There are also complicated restrictions on a player’s postseason eligibility dictated by when the athlete was waived.

“In order to retain his postseason eligibility for a new NBA team, a player must be waived on or before March 1,” Adams detailed in a February 27, story titled, “Players Waived After Sunday Won’t Be Playoff-Eligible.” “That means that any player who remains on an NBA roster after Sunday won’t be eligible to suit up in the playoffs for a new team, though there’s at least one key exception to that general rule.

“A player who is currently on a 10-day contract – or a current free agent who signs one after March 1 – will retain his playoff eligibility going forward. For instance, once Killian Hayes‘ 10-day deal with Sacramento expires next Wednesday night, he’d still be able to join a new team and play in the postseason for that club, since he’s not being placed on waivers after March 1.”

Anthony Edwards’ Injury Puts His Playing Status in Doubt for the Remainder of the NBA Playoffs

Edwards is slated to miss “multiple weeks” with a left knee injury. This means Edwards will miss the remainder of the Wolves-Nuggets series and calls into question whether the star will be able to return during the NBA playoffs.

Edwards’ status likely depends on how far Minnesota can advance in the postseason with the star sidelined.

“Just in: Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards has sustained a bone bruise and hyperextension in his left knee and is expected to miss multiple weeks, sources tell ESPN,” Charania detailed in an April 26, message on X. “Results showed Edwards avoided any ligament damage, but he will now miss time.”
