Kalen DeBoer lands early commitment from 2028 QB Charles Scott.
Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide have struck early again on the recruiting trail, landing a commitment from 2028 quarterback Charles Scott following one of the fastest recruiting turnarounds in recent memory.
According to Chad Simmons of Rivals, Scott needed just one visit and one month to lock in his decision. The Richmond (Va.) Huguenot standout visited Tuscaloosa on April 1, earned an offer that same day, and exactly one month later announced his commitment to Alabama.

Comfort played a major role in Scott’s decision.
“I felt like home,” Scott said. “I knew I could see myself playing there right away. All the quarterbacks came up to me, talked to me, and told me it’s the place to be. They laid it all out for me.
During his visit, Alabama players, especially the quarterbacks, made an immediate effort to connect with him. That peer-to-peer interaction reinforced what the coaching staff was selling and helped Scott envision himself in the program long term.
That sense of belonging ultimately accelerated his timeline. Despite holding around 20 offers, Scott didn’t feel the need to drag out the process once he found the right fit.
Quarterbacks coach Bryan Ellis was instrumental in securing the commitment. Scott pointed to their growing relationship and Ellis’ ability to simplify the game while focusing on long-term development.
Head coach Kalen DeBoer also left a strong impression. Watching DeBoer in a practice setting and seeing his approach firsthand reinforced Scott’s belief that Alabama is built to develop quarterbacks at a high level.
Like many young quarterbacks, Scott grew up watching former Alabama stars such as Bryce Young and Jalen Milroe. Their success played a key role in shaping his perception of the program.
“I watched Bryce Young and Jalen Milroe growing up, ” Scott said. “Seeing what they did there showed me the development is real. Alabama has developed some top quarterbacks. I have been watching them for a long time, and I love what they do.”
Alabama’s track record at the position, combined with its reputation for preparing players for the next level and life beyond football, made a lasting impression.
While Scott is still years away from signing day, this commitment gives Alabama an early cornerstone in the 2028 class. It also reinforces the program’s ability to identify and secure top quarterback talent quickly under DeBoer’s staff.
If early returns are any indication, Alabama’s quarterback recruiting pipeline isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
