The Chicago Cubs are batting Pete Crow-Armstrong eighth again.
It’s been a rough week for Chicago Cubs superstar Pete Crow-Armstrong, who was recently caught on a hot mic screaming an obscene message towards a fan at Rate Field against the Chicago White Sox. The fan was reportedly talking smack to PCA, but Crow-Armstrong retaliated with his word choice, and that’s what gained a lot of traction and reaction across MLB, including an undisclosed fine from the league.
Fast forward to this week, the Chicago Cubs were swept by the Milwaukee Brewers, and are no longer in first place in the National League Central. Pete Crow-Armstrong made two costly errors in that Brewers series, and some are saying it could be a form of karma going towards PCA.

The Chicago Cubs inked Pete Crow-Armstrong to a six-year, $115 million contract that will set in next year, but PCA has struggled to start this season, and if his defense slips like the bat has, it could pose issues for the Cubs’ future.
After the Brewers swept the Cubs on Wednesday, PCA got honest about his recent struggles:
“It’s never a lack of focus, but trying too hard to make up for a lack of production I have given this team and city. Not behaving like I should. Anything physical starts out mental. I think that’s what I am showing everybody right now.”
PCA is hitting .225 this season with five home runs, 20 RBI, and an OPS of .659. Those are below-average statistics for a player who is supposed to feature a strong power upside and the ability to get on-base at a high rate.

The Chicago Cubs have struggled over the past week and a half. They are 2-8 in their last 10 games, and have slipped to third place in the NL Central. The Brewers series wasn’t a great showing, no doubt about it, but the Cubs also dropped their series to the Braves and White Sox before this week.
They will get a much-needed rest day on Thursday before welcoming the struggling Houston Astros into Wrigley Field. After playing the Astros over the weekend, Chicago will take on the Pittsburgh Pirates in what will be another crucial divisional matchup.
As for Pete Crow-Armstrong, there’s plenty of time to turn his season around, but he will have to be more productive soon, or else the noise will get louder and louder surrounding him and the Chicago Cubs.
