MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA - MAY 10: Anthony Edwards #5 of the Minnesota Timberwolves reacts after the victory against the San Antonio Spurs in Game Four of the Second Round of the NBA Western Conference Playoffs at Target Center on May 10, 2026 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Despite a lingering knee injury, Anthony Edwards led the Minnesota Timberwolves to a Game 4 win over the San Antonio Spurs to tie the conference semifinal series at two games apiece.

The Timberwolves star has been dealing with a knee injury he suffered last series against the Denver Nuggets, but that didn’t stop him from putting together a record-breaking night to help save his team from going down 3-1 in the series after Victor Wembanyama of the Spurs was ejected.

Edwards, who finished with 36 points, including 16 in the fourth quarter, dedicated his historic performance to his late mom on Mother’s Day.

GettyMINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA – MAY 10: Anthony Edwards #5 of the Minnesota Timberwolves reacts during the fourth quarter against the San Antonio Spurs in Game Four of the Second Round of the NBA Western Conference Playoffs at Target Center on May 10, 2026 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Along with leading the Timberwolves to a Game 4 win, Edwards etched his name on a few elite NBA lists with his play on Sunday night.

Perhaps most notably, Edwards became one of six players in league history to record at least 600 fourth-quarter playoff points before turning 25 years old.

“Anthony Edwards (302 PTS) becomes the 6th player in the play-by-play era (1997-98) to record 300+ fourth quarter PTS in the postseason before turning 25!” the NBA History account wrote in a post on X. “Joining: Kobe Bryant (625 PTS) LeBron James (493 PTS) Jayson Tatum (388 PTS) Kevin Durant (388 PTS) Dwyane Wade (357 PTS).”

Edwards, who had a playoff-high 36 points in Game 4, also put his name near the top of another list of NBA superstars who have scored at least 30 points in a postseason game before the age of 25.

“Tonight was Anthony Edwards’ 18th postseason game with 30+ points, tying Dwyane Wade for the fourth-most by a player before turning 25,” NBA Stats wrote on X. “Trailing only… LeBron James (30) Kobe Bryant (26) Kevin Durant (22).”

The Timberwolves star has been huge for Minnesota in the playoffs over the past few years, and while he is still dealing with the knee injury he picked up just over two weeks ago, Edwards is still growing his postseason resume with his strong performances against the Spurs.

According to The Real App, Edwards now has ‘More points than Wade — More assists than Harden — More threes than Klay — More steals than Kobe — More wins than Jordan’ through his first 50 career playoff games.

Edwards helped tie the series against San Antonio back up with a win in Game 4, sending the series back to Texas for Game 5 on Tuesday night.

Edwards Dedicates Game 4 Win To His Mom

Speaking after the Game 4 victory, which saw Edwards add his name to a few historical NBA lists, the superstar said that he dedicated his Sunday night performance to his mom, who died in 2015.

“Today is Mother’s Day,” Edwards said. “I just wanted to win for my mom. It was that simple.”

When asked if he was thinking about his late mom during the Timberwolves’ Mother’s Day Game, the star gave a similar response, adding that he ‘couldn’t lose this game for her,’ which was evident with his fourth-quarter scoring burst as the Spurs were attempting to steal a win without their franchise centerpiece.

“For sure,” he added. “I couldn’t lose this game for her.”

Following the win, multiple Timberwolves players, including Naz Reid, also spoke about their mothers in glowing fashion.

“My mom used to walk (expletive) near an hour and 45 minutes to work,” Reid said after the game that saw him elbowed by Wembanyama, which ultimately led to the Spurs’ star’s ejection. “That’s what my mom taught me. You get knocked down, get right back up…My mom and my grandmother have been through a lot,” Reid said. “That’s where I get my pain tolerance from.”

With the help of Edwards, Reid, Jaden McDaniels, Ayo Dosunmu, Julius Randle, and the rest of Minnesota’s supporting cast, the Timberwolves evened their series against the Spurs back up at 2-2.

Game 5 of the series will come in San Antonio at 7 pm CST on Tuesday, May 12, which will be live on NBC and Peacock.
