The New York Mets are attempting to come out of the cellar in the MLB standings leaderboard. After losing 12-straight games, the Mets have won their last two games, and will play the Colorado Rockies in a three-game weekend series at Citi Field.

However, it was one step foward and another step backwards when Juan Soto was reinstated from the Injured List, because Francisco Lindor went down in Wednesday’s game and landed on the IL with a calf strain himself, and it’s a more severe calf strain than was Soto’s, so Lindor will miss an extended period of time.

MLBTradeRumors.com’s Darragh McDonald wrote (on April 23): “[Carlos] Mendoza said reporters, including Joel Sherman of The New York Post, Lindor’s strain is worse than Soto’s and he will therefore miss a decent amount of time. Mendoza added that Mauricio will get the majority of shortstop time while Lindor is out.”

Mets Reporter Gives New Francisco Lindor Update

Per Mets reporter Anthony DiComo, Francisco Lindor will be in a walking boot:

“Francisco Lindor will be in a boot for the next week. The Mets won’t reevaluate him until three full weeks pass, so he can’t restart baseball activities until mid-May at the earliest. The strain is in “a tricky part” of Lindor’s left calf, per Carlos Mendoza.”

It’s a tough blow for the Mets, as they will now rely on Ronny Mauricio to take over shortstop duties. It’s actually a good thing for the Mets organization that they will see an extended look at Mauricio, who has been attached to trade rumors in the past. However, the loss of Francisco Lindor is obviously a big one. Lindor’s gone through his fair share of injuries this year. He already broke his Hamate bone before the season, which could be the reason for some of his lack of success.

How Will the Mets Fare Without Francisco Lindor?

Francisco Lindor has underperformed this season, so if you look at the numbers, the Mets might actually be okay without him.

The addition of Juan Soto to the lineup is huge, but of course, Ronny Mauricio will have to produce in his spot or New York will have a hard time picking up wins again.

In 24 games this season, Lindor has accumulated a 0.5 bWAR with a .226 average, two doubles, two triples, and two home runs. He’s also scored 14 runs. Lindor is in the fifth year of a $341 million contract.
