The Chicago Bears‘ biggest roster need this offseason involved the pass rush, but as of the end of NFL draft weekend, the franchise has yet to address it.

Given that, and the rescinded trade that would have sent the Las Vegas Raiders two first-round picks from the Baltimore Ravens for Maxx Crosby, there is reason again for Chicago to consider making an offer for the five-time Pro Bowl edge-rusher.

Two first-round picks is too high, and the Bears already proved the first time around they weren’t willing to wade that deep into the waters of a Crosby deal.

However, the 2027 draft is widely regarded as an excellent class across all positions, which means the Bears could potentially convince the Raiders that a little less is worth a lot more when comparing compensation next year as opposed to the proceedings that just passed.

Now is also a spot on the timeline that ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler laid out in mid-March as an opportunity for interested teams to revisit trade talks involving Crosby.

“Everybody seems like they’re in a good spot, but since [the Raiders] already looked at trading, they’re open to that possibility, potentially, if the right offer would come,” Fowler reported. “We’re looking at timelines here. Now is gonna be a little slow, but you get closer to the draft, perhaps trade offers will heat up, or even maybe closer to the season.”

Chicago owns all of its picks in Round 1-7 next year. A first-rounder will have to be part of the deal for the Raiders pass-rusher who tallied 28 tackles for loss last season, which was second in the league behind Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett, along with 10 sacks — and did so in just 15 games.

However, Crosby will play the upcoming campaign at 29 years old. He has missed seven contests to injuries over the past two seasons, and his advanced metrics at Pro Football Focus indicate he is slowing down to a minimal, but obvious, degree as he approaches the age of 30.

Baltimore’s reasoning for backing out of its trade with Las Vegas was centered around what the Ravens claimed was a failed physical involving Crosby’s surgically-repaired knee, which cost him the final two games of the 2025 season against his will — sparking controversy between the defensive end and the Las Vegas organization.

Bears Will Be Well-Bought if They Can Acquire Maxx Crosby for Two 2027 Draft Picks in Rounds 1, 3

The Bears are still building and have needs along the offensive line, as well as the defensive line beyond edge-rusher. Sending both their first- and second-round picks in 2027 to the Raiders for Crosby and his $106.5 million extension that runs through 2029 probably isn’t a justifiable move.

And while Las Vegas won’t want to sell low and is sure to remain stringent in any coming negotiations with any potential Crosby trade suitors, the franchise must accept that the fallout from the Ravens deal has cost the star player some of his value that the Raiders simply will not be able to recover.

A fair offer should take the form of something like the Bears’ first-round and third-round selections in 2027, in return for Crosby and a fifth-round pick from the Raiders next year. If the two teams can get into that ballpark, Crosby to Chicago might still be a possibility in the weeks and months to come.
