The Philadelphia Phillies might be in the midst of turning their season around. They’ve won eight of their last 10 games under interim manager Don Mattingly. The recent success has been due to the Phillies’ starters like Christopher Sanchez, Zack Wheeler, and Jesus Luzardo starting to round into form, and Philadelphia’s stars Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber starting to hit the long ball.

However, some players are still struggling, and it’s fair to assume there will be wholesale changes within the organization come the summer months, as the Phillies still have MLB playoff aspirations, but it might take a trade or two in order to reach that goal. Recently, the Phillies have been urged to trade third baseman Alec Bohm, who is off to a rough start in a contract year.

Phillies’ Alec Bohm Named Top Trade Candidate

In a recent article by Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller, Alec Bohm was named as the Philadelphia Phillies top trade candidate this season:

“As with the Mets and Peralta, a selling Phillies team would have an absurd trade chip in Zack Wheeler ($42M in each of 2026 and 2027). With wins in seven of their last nine games, though, the Phillies are back enough from the dead that we’d better press pause on any further speculation on that front. They might give up the ghost on Alec Bohm, though, regardless of whether they’re buying or selling. The classic “needs a change of scenery” trade candidate hasn’t homered since Opening Day.”

Alec Bohm is hitting .159 over 35 games this season, and his OPS is a microscopic .433, and his bWAR is -0.9 ALREADY. In a contract year, it’s a rough start for Bohm, and if the Phillies aren’t going to resign him (which doesn’t appear to be the case), then trading Bohm feels inevitable.

Alec Bohm has been a solid hitter for the Phillies over the past several seasons, which included an All-Star appearance in 2024. However, the 29-year-old is very reliant on hitting for average and doesn’t have a high upside, so when the average slips, his production and value slip as a player, as we’re seeing this season.

As Miller mentions, trading Bohm is the classic ‘change of scenery’ move, which may help Alec Bohm in the slightest in terms of helping his free agency case.

As far as what the Phillies could get in return for Bohm… maybe a low-leverage bullpen arm? Or perhaps a mid-tier prospect? At this point, Philadelphia might be comfortable with whatever is thrown its way.
