Celtics’ Jaylen Brown Drops Blunt Quote After 76ers Steal Game 2

Jaylen Brown #7 of the Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics entered Game 2 at TD Garden on Tuesday night looking for a 2-0 series lead. A 32-point demolition of the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 1 had set the tone. The second seed against the seventh seed, on their home floor, with the crowd behind them. Everything pointed toward another dominant performance.

Philadelphia came out sharper, more physical, and more confident than they had shown in Game 1. The game ended 111-97 in Philadelphia’s favour. The series is level.

Jaylen Brown led Boston with 36 points but could not prevent the loss. Afterwards, he addressed what comes next.

What Brown Said Postgame

The message from Brown after the final buzzer was measured and direct. No panic. No deflection.

“We’ll learn from it, and we’ll get back to playing Celtics basketball,” Brown said.

That is the tone of a player who has been through playoff battles before. Brown knows what this team is capable of. One bad game at home does not change the belief inside that locker room. What it does is sharpen the focus heading into Philadelphia.

The confidence behind those words has been earned. Brown carried this franchise through months without Jayson Tatum earlier this season, averaging 28.6 points per game during that stretch. He knows what this team looks like when it is operating at full capacity. Tuesday night was not it. Friday is the response.

“It’s the playoffs,” Brown said. “Welcome to the playoffs, you know what I mean?”

What Went Wrong For the Celtics in Game 2

The second quarter was where the game turned. Boston took a 26-13 lead midway through the first and looked poised to run away with it. Then the 76ers steadied themselves.

Seven turnovers in the first half gifted Philadelphia easy transition opportunities. Boston’s three-point shooting in that second quarter was poor, one make from eight attempts. Philadelphia shot eight of eleven threes in that same period and put up 37 points in the quarter. A comfortable lead became a deficit by halftime.

Rookie VJ Edgecombe was the story of the night for the 76ers. The young guard hit six threes on his way to 30 points and 10 rebounds. He was the engine behind everything Philadelphia did offensively alongside Tyrese Maxey.

Game Three Set For Friday

Boston pulled within 91-89 with six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. The comeback was real. Then Tyrese Maxey took over. The All-Star guard hit back-to-back threes off the dribble to push the lead back to double digits, then drew contact on a difficult reverse layup to put the game away. Boston’s starters were on the bench shortly after.

Maxey finished with 29 points and made the biggest shots of the game when they mattered most. He will be the central challenge again in Philadelphia on Friday.

The Celtics went 26-15 on the road during the regular season. Winning in Philadelphia is not beyond them. But the second quarter collapse and the three-point shooting drought both need addressing before Game 3.

The series shifts to Philadelphia on Friday night. Game 3 tips off at 7pm EST.

Final Word for the Celtics

One game does not define a series. The Celtics know that better than anyone.

Brown’s response after the loss said everything about where this team’s head is at. No alarm. No finger-pointing. Just a direct acknowledgment that the standard slipped and a clear conviction that it will not slip again.

The road has not been a problem for Boston this season. Friday is a chance to prove that holds in the playoffs too.

Get back to Celtics basketball. That is the mission now.
