The Los Angeles Dodgers shared news about injured reliever Brusdar Graterol.

The Los Angeles Dodgers will be without reliever Brusdar Graterol for an extended period after the club shared news that the righty has suffered a setback while rehabbing a shoulder injury.

Graterol is headed for imaging after experiencing discomfort in his back, reports Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic. He’s been pulled off his rehab assignment. Ardaya relayed that Graterol’s velocity was down in his most recent minor league appearance. He hasn’t pitched since Tuesday, May 12.

The Dodgers news comes right after the team lost left-hander Blake Snell to an elbow injury. It’s the latest in a lengthy list of injury struggles for Graterol. The squad had optimism he would be ready for Opening Day, but that was quashed in Spring Training. A return in the first half is likely out of the question after this most recent issue.

Los Angeles Dodgers News Update: Brusdar Graterol Suffers Setback, Return Timeline Delayed

The 27-year-old Graterol has been limited to just seven MLB appearances since 2023. He didn’t pitch at all last season. The hard-throwing righty dealt with shoulder and elbow inflammation in 2022. He stayed on the mound in 2023, but battled shoulder inflammation again in 2024. A third bout with the malady led to surgery at the end of the 2024 campaign.

Graterol finally returned to the mound this season. He made four appearances at Triple-A Oklahoma City. The reliever allowed three earned runs over 3.1 innings. Graterol struck out three and issued a trio of walks during his brief rehab stint.

The Dodgers acquired Graterol in a February 2020 trade with the Minnesota Twins. Los Angeles sent right-hander Kenta Maeda and catcher Jair Camargo to Minnesota. The club received outfielder Luke Raley in addition to Graterol. The reliever became a fixture in the Dodgers’ bullpen in 2022. He delivered a 3.26 ERA over 46 appearances. Graterol picked up the first four saves of his big-league career that year. He was even better the following year, posting a tremendous 1.20 ERA across a career-high 67.1 innings.

While Graterol missed most of the 2024 regular season, he emerged as an asset in the World Series against the New York Yankees. The righty allowed a run over three appearances. The Dodgers won all three games Graterol pitched.

Who Has Emerged in the Dodgers’ Bullpen?

Los Angeles has been hit hard by reliever injuries. Free agent acquisition Edwin Diaz is the most notable loss. The Dodgers handed the closer a massive three-year, $69 million deal. He stumbled to a 10.50 ERA and then went down with a major elbow injury.

The club is also missing Ben Casparius, Jake Cousins, Bobby Miller, and Evan Phillips. Brock Stewart finally returned in May, only to head right back to the injured list after two appearances. On the starting pitcher side, Tyler Glasnow, Landon Knack, and Gavin Stone have been forced to miss time.

Tanner Scott has assumed the closer role. The lefty has provided a strong 1.47 ERA across 18.1 innings. He’s picked up four saves. Scott struggled in his debut with the organization in 2025, recording a 4.74 ERA over 61 appearances. He did rack up 23 saves, the third time in four seasons he’s crossed the 20-save threshold.
