Paul Reed of the Philadelphia 76ers

The former second-round center who made a name for himself as “Bball Paul” in Philadelphia with the 76ers made Detroit Pistons history on Sunday night.

As the Pistons participated in their final game of the 2025-2026 NBA regular season, Paul Reed got a chance to start in the absence of the one-time All-Star, Jalen Duren.

The Pistons rolled out Reed for 22 minutes. The veteran center ended up leading the way in scoring for Detroit, producing 26 points.

It was a perfect night for Paul Reed. The ex-Sixer went 11-11 from the field, and made all four of his free-throw attempts.

In addition to his shooting, Reed came down with six rebounds, dished out three assists, came up with three steals, and blocked three shots.

He achieved a franchise record, surpassing an NBA legend.

Paul Reed And The Pistons Are Thriving

During the same offseason, the Pistons added two players who coming from the 76ers. Tobias Harris inked a two-year deal with the Pistons in 2024 after a six-year stint with the Sixers.

Reed was waived by Philadelphia and claimed by the Pistons. Although the Pistons waived Reed just to re-sign him on a one-year deal in 2024-2025, he returned to the team on a two-year deal through free agency last season.

This season, Reed appeared in 64 games for the Pistons leading up to Sunday night’s finale. The veteran center averaged 13.7 minutes per game. Reed made 60.4% of his shots from the field to average 7.5 points per game. He came down with 4.5 rebounds per game and blocked nearly 1.0 shots per game.

Reed has played an important role behind Jalen Duren–especially in the frequent absence of Isaiah Stewart down the stretch.

Paul Reed’s History With the Sixers

The 26-year-old center first joined the Sixers in 2020.

After a run at DePaul, Reed was taken 58th overall by Philadelphia in the NBA Draft. He started his career on a two-way deal. Reed dominated the NBA G League, earning MVP and Rookie of the Year honors.

The Sixers promoted Reed to a standard contract during his rookie year. When he became a restricted free agent in 2023, Reed landed back with the Sixers on a three-year, $23 million contract.

Over four years in Philadelphia, Reed averaged 5.1 points, 4.2 rebounds, and nearly 1.0 blocks per game.
