NASCAR could be headed toward another major shake-up to its season-opening exhibition event — and Daytona International Speedway may once again be part of the conversation.

According to a report from Speedway Digest, NASCAR is exploring potential future changes surrounding the Clash, including the possibility of bringing the event back to Daytona beginning in 2027.

Nothing has been officially announced by NASCAR, and the report framed the discussions as exploratory rather than finalized. Still, the idea of returning the Clash to Daytona would mark another major evolution for an event that has undergone several dramatic changes in recent years.

NASCAR Has Moved the Clash Multiple Times in Recent Years

The Clash was traditionally held at Daytona International Speedway for decades before NASCAR moved the exhibition race to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in 2022.

The move to LA represented a major shift in philosophy for NASCAR, as the sport attempted to create a large-scale entertainment event in a new market while attracting casual sports fans and broader media attention ahead of the regular season.

After three seasons at the Coliseum, NASCAR moved the Clash again in 2025 to Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina — a historic short track often referred to as “The Madhouse.”

Now, Daytona could potentially re-enter the picture.

According to Speedway Digest’s report, NASCAR is evaluating broader schedule concepts and future event structures that could impact the Clash beginning in 2027.

Daytona Return Would Bring Clash Back to Its Traditional Roots

A return to Daytona would represent a notable shift back toward tradition after several years of experimentation with unique venues and formats.

The Clash debuted in 1979 at Daytona and became a staple of Speedweeks for generations of NASCAR fans. For much of its history, the event featured pole winners and top drivers in a short exhibition race before the Daytona 500.

Even after NASCAR moved the event away from Daytona, many longtime fans continued calling for the Clash to eventually return to its original home.

The Speedway Digest report also noted that NASCAR’s long-term planning could involve broader schedule considerations, including how major sporting events like the Super Bowl impact scheduling and television visibility during the opening stretch of the NASCAR season.

NASCAR has not publicly confirmed any future changes to the Clash beyond the current format.

Still, the possibility of Daytona once again hosting the exhibition race will likely generate significant discussion across the NASCAR community, especially among fans who strongly associate the Clash with Daytona Speedweeks.
