The New York Yankees were able to take care of business against the Houston Astros on Friday, winning by a final score of 12-4. With the win, the Yankees improved to 17-9 on the season.

Unfortunately, the status of star designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton has come into question.

During the game, Stanton left the game due to right calf tightness. While no news has come out about whether or not he will be forced to miss game action, manager Aaron Boone has provided a concerning update.

As shared by Brendan Kuty of The Athletic, New York gave a very ominous outlook for Stanton.

“Yankees manager Aaron Boone says it’s ‘too early’ to know whether to be concerned over Giancarlo Stanton’s right calf tightness,” Kuty wrote on X. “The team will reassess tomorrow.”

Losing Giancarlo Stanton Would Be Tough Blow for Yankees

So far this season, Stanton has gotten off to a solid start. Over the years, he has been a top-tier No. 2 offensive weapon behind Aaron Judge.

In his first 24 games this season, the 36-year-old designated hitter has slashed .256/.302/.422 to go along with three home runs and 14 RBI.

Should he be forced to miss time, the Yankees’ offense would take a major step back. Having his bat in the lineup is key for New York to be a true contender.

Thankfully, right calf tightness is not something that is likely to keep him out long-term. He may sit out a handful of games to avoid risk of a more serious issue, such as an Achilles injury, but the Yankees shouldn’t be without their star slugger for long.

New York Needs to Get Healthy & Stay Healthy

To start the season, New York has already dealt with multiple key injuries.

While not unexpected, the Yankees have had both Anthony Volpe and Gerrit Cole missing time. Other players have also been forced out of game action.

Despite dealing with multiple injury problems early in the season, New York has remained a contender. Holding a 17-9 record even with the adversity is a good sign for the Yankees as the season continues forward.

Hopefully, New York will get good news on Stanton’s status on Saturday. In an ideal world, he’ll be able to get back on the field without missing time or simply sitting for a few days.

As soon as more updates are made available about Stanton’s injury, we’ll make sure to provide the news for you.
