Sean McDermott makes feelings clear on Joe Brady as Bills HC.

The NFL will release its complete schedule on Thursday, and the Buffalo Bills just received significant news about one of their opponents. In Week 2, the Bills are set to host the Lions for “Thursday Night Football.”

Bills Will Take On Lions in Week 2

It’s no surprise that Buffalo will welcome Detroit, as the team already has a clear lineup of opponents for the season, although the specific dates and times for the remaining 16 games are still to be determined. Now, the Bills can start preparing for their Week 2 matchup against the Lions.

The Week 2 game for the Bills could be more significant this season, as it marks the first opportunity for Buffalo to showcase its new stadium. Buffalo will be stepping into a brand-new open-air venue this year, and it looks like they’ll play their first regular-season game there in Week 2.

Buffalo is one of the NFL’s premier football cities, and it only makes sense for the new stadium to debut during a prime-time game. Having the Bills kick off at home in Week 1 with an afternoon matchup against a lesser opponent like the Miami Dolphins would do Buffalo no favors. That game would just get lost among the rest of the Sunday-afternoon slate, so it’s nice to see the NFL decided not to give them a Week 1 home game at an afternoon time.

Now that we know the Bills’ Week 2 opponent, it will be interesting to see who they face in Week 1, and there’s a chance they open with an AFC East opponent on the road.

Joe Brady Will Debut as New Head Coach This Season

The Bills will unveil a new stadium this season, along with a new head coach, Joe Brady. Brady has been part of the Buffalo coaching staff since 2022, serving in roles including quarterback coach and offensive coordinator. However, stepping into the role of head coach presents a whole new set of challenges.

Brady will now take on the primary responsibility of helping the team overcome their playoff struggles and finally reach the Super Bowl. While former head coach Sean McDermott did an excellent job of leading the Bills to the playoffs — making it eight out of his nine seasons as head coach — the last six seasons have seen them with a legitimate shot at the Super Bowl, yet they have still fallen short.

The goal for Brady is simple: reach the Super Bowl. Owner Terry Pegula even said back in January that the main reason he fired McDermott was losing to the Denver Broncos in the AFC divisional round this past season and not making the Super Bowl again.

“My decision to bring in a new coach was based on the results of our game in Denver,” Pegula explained while speaking with reporters,” via NFL.com’s Nick Shook.

Hopefully, Brady will be the coach who leads the team to the Super Bowl with Josh Allen, or there could be some changes on the horizon in the next few years.
