As the San Antonio Spurs gear up for Game 3 against the Portland Trail Blazers, the team remains unsure about Victor Wembanyama’s playing status for the matchup.

Only one thing is for sure: Wembanyama will travel with the Spurs.

“Spurs coach Mitch Johnson says Victor Wembanyama is doing well after his concussion and will travel with the team to Portland today. His status for tomorrow’s Game 3 is still up in the air as he progresses through the NBA concussion protocol. (via Jared Weiss, The Athletic).

What Happened To Victor Wembanyama?

During the Spurs’ Game 2 loss against the Blazers, Wembanyama took a hard fall. As his head hit the court, it was clear that the veteran big man would have to come out of the game to get checked out.

Wembanyama instantly went back to the Spurs’ locker room. It wouldn’t be long before the team confirmed he was going through concussion protocol.

Shortly after that, it was announced that Wembanyama was out for the remainder of the game.

Wembanyama finished the game after playing in just under 12 minutes. He shot 33.3% from the field, scoring five points. The veteran center came down with four rebounds and dished out one assist.

Without Wembanyama, the Spurs dropped the game with a 106-103 loss.

Later on, the Spurs officially diagnosed Wembanyama with a concussion. His status for the following game was instantly up in the air. On Wednesday, Wembanyama did some cardio work, and did not report worse symptoms. That was a step in the right direction.

The star center was seen at the Spurs’ practice facility doing some light work. He was clearly not participating in any practice action before the Spurs travel to Portland on Thursday.

Wembanyama’s Playoff Run So Far

While the injury halted what was shaping up to be an impressive run, it’s clear the playoff stage hasn’t been too big for the former No. 1 pick so far.

In Game 1, Wembanyama checked in for 33 minutes. He went 61.9% from the field and drained 5-6 shots from three to score 35 points. Beyond his scoring, Wembanyama came down with five rebounds, blocked two shots, and dished out one assist.
