Trump Says He Supports Spencer Pratt for L.A. Mayor, Call...
James Hibber · 2026-05-20 · via The Hollywood Reporter

Potentially bad news for Spencer Pratt: The president just expressed support for Pratt’s Los Angeles mayoral run.

Donald Trump was asked Wednesday by reporters if he sees himself in Pratt, as they were both former reality TV stars who entered politics.

“I’d like to see him do well, he’s a character,” Trump replied (video below). “I assume he probably supports me. Does he support me?”

A reporter off camera replied, “I think so.”

“I heard he does,” Trump continued. “I heard he’s a big MAGA person. He’s doing well.”

Then Trump went on a tangent about “rigged” ballots.

Pratt is registered as a Republican but has taken pains to downplay his party affiliation — and distance himself from Trump — in his effort to unseat unpopular incumbent Karen Bass in the heavily Democratic city.

Bass and L.A. City Council member Nithya Raman — who is also in the race — have repeatedly tried to link Pratt to Trump during the campaign. While Trump’s statement wasn’t a full-throated endorsement, the comments will almost certainly be used by Pratt’s opponents — particularly the “big MAGA person” line.

Previously, Raman claimed on X, “Donald Trump is about to endorse Spencer … we need to raise more [money] to prove that LA doesn’t want a MAGA Republican mayor who lives in the Bel Air hotel.”

Pratt replied by tweeting: “I have the only endorsement I need. Moms and animal lovers who want to feel safe.”

As for his political affiliation, Pratt has previously said, “I represent all of Los Angeles. I do not represent a party. I don’t have a campaign manager. I don’t have campaign consultants. There’s no political party backing me.”
