The final season of My Hero Academia was awarded the coveted anime of the year prize, and the massive global hit Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle took home film of the year award at the 10th edition of the Crunchyroll Anime Awards that took place on Saturday night in Tokyo, Japan.

Organizers said a stunning 73 million anime fans around the world voted for this year’s Crunchyroll Awards, blowing past 2025’s record of 51 million, and another sign of the exponential growth of anime globally.

Another pointer to the cultural impact of anime, superstar singer, and huge anime fan, The Weeknd presented the My Hero Academia team with their anime of the year prize. In total, the final season of the show won four awards, including anime of the year, best ending sequence and best supporting character.

Other global celebrities present at the awards included the Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA, Black Panther actor Winston Duke, Grammy-nominated artist Young Miko, Kpop artists BamBam and TEN, Japan actors Asuka Saito, Kasumi Arimura and Nanase Nishino, and Indian actress Rashmika Mandanna. The awards were hosted by Lauren Moore and Tim Lyu alongside YouTube creator Gigguk.

Demon Slayer, Sony/Crunchyroll’s $781 million record-breaking box office monster, took home the most prizes, seven in total, but five of those were in the voice artitst performance categories for various languages.
