Tracee Ellis Ross will make her Broadway debut this summer in the one-person show Every Brilliant Thing.
Ross begins performance July 7, for a run through Aug. 9. Daniel Radcliffe opened the play at Broadway’s Hudson Theatre on March 12 and will lead the show through May 24. Mariska Hargitay takes over for a run from May 26, through July 5, before Ross steps into the role.
This marks the fourth extension of the play, which was nominated for best revival of a play. Radcliffe also received a nomination.
A six-time Emmy Award nominee and Golden Globe winner, Ross makes her Broadway debut after leading shows such as Black-ish and Girlfriends and appearing in the film American Fiction.
“I’ve been a fan of Tracee’s work for a long time and knew her quick-wit, intelligence and emotional depth would be the perfect fit for Every Brilliant Thing,” said Macmillan. “We are beyond thrilled that she has chosen to make her Broadway debut with us this summer. We can’t wait to welcome her to the Hudson Theatre, and for audiences to experience her unique take on the play.”
Written by Duncan Macmillan and Jonny Donahoe and directed by Jeremy Herrin, the play is about a person whose mother is facing mental health challenges. They attempt to cheer her up by listing things that make life worth living. As the main character grows up and battles their own mental health struggles, more brilliant things are added in. The play involves a large amount of audience participation, with attendees asked to step in as characters in the play and shout out brilliant things written on slips of paper.
