Laura Linney is returning to Broadway next season in the world premiere of the new play Montauk.

Linney will star in the play, written by David Hare and directed by Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan, in spring 2027 at the Manhattan Theatre Club’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre. Additionally, the nonprofit theater named Linney as its first artist-in-residence, in which Linney will work on developing projects for upcoming seasons at Manhattan Theatre Club and take part in MTC’s educational and community outreach programs. 

Linney has had a 35-year-relationship with Manhattan Theatre Club, beginning with MTC’s Beggars in the House of Plenty in 1991 and the Off-Broadway production of Sight Unseen in 1992. She later starred in MTC’s Broadway productions of Sight Unseen; Time Stands Still; Lillian Hellman’s The Little Foxes; My Name is Lucy Barton; and Summer, 1976. 

In Montauk, Linney will take on the role of Roxy Margaux, a star writer who becomes infatuated with Jared Speight, a stubborn artist with a very different approach to art and life.

We’re proud to be giving this play its world premiere on Broadway.”
