‘Murder in a Small Town’ Renewed for Third Season at Fox

Fox has renewed its drama series Murder in a Small Town, closing out decisions on scripted shows that it aired this season.

Murder in a Small Town, starring Rossif Sutherland and Kristin Kreuk, will get a third season on Fox in 2026-27 (it also airs on the Global network in Canada). Fox also announced that Peter Gallagher (Grace and Frankie, The O.C.) will join the cast for the coming season.

With the renewal, Fox has made calls on all of its 2025-26 scripted shows. Murder in a Small Town joins fellow dramas Doc and Memory of a Killer and the hour-long dramedy Best Medicine in earning a place on the network’s schedule for next season. Fox will unveil its slate for 2026-27 at its upfront presentation on May 11.

Based on a series of novels by L.R. Wright, Murder in a Small Town stars Sutherland as Karl Alberg, a former big-city detective who moves to a small coastal town of Gibsons to seek respite. The town, of course, is full of secrets, and dead bodies have a way of showing up. Kreuk plays Cassandra Lee, a librarian who becomes both Karl’s love interest and, in season two, a member of the town council.

“We love bringing this cozy and delightful mystery to Fox fans, and we’re thrilled Murder in a Small Town has continued to resonate with our audience,” said Brooke Bowman, executive vp drama programming and development at Fox. “We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Sepia Films and Future Shack on Season Three, alongside our exceptional cast led by Rossif Sutherland and Kristin Kreuk and soon to include the incomparable talent of Peter Gallagher as their newest adversary.”

In season three, Gallagher will play Rod Finlayson. The character is described as “a charismatic, uber-independent, capable yet unreliable figure, whose arrival at the Gibsons marina on his beloved boat sets up a sequence of upheavals that Alberg and Cassandra will have to grapple with.”

Sepia Films produces the series in association with Fox Entertainment and Future Shack Entertainment.  Ian Weir, Amanda Tapping, Morris Ruskin and Sharon Wisnia of Mojo Global Arts, Tina Pehme and Kim Roberts ofSepia Films and Jeff Wachtel and Jared Berenholz of Future Shack are the executive producers. Nick Orchard of Soapbox Productions, which originally optioned the book series, serves as producer.
