Acclaimed German film producer Martin Moszkowicz (September 5, Resident Evil, Look Who’s Back) has been named the new President of the Zurich Film Festival (ZFF). The ZFF made the announcement on Wednesday.
Moszkowicz will also chair the ZFF board of directors. He takes up his new job on July 1, replacing current ZFF President Doris Fiala.
“Martin Moszkowicz is the ideal president for us because he comes from the creative side of the industry, knows the festival extremely well, and, thanks to his extensive network in Munich and Los Angeles, will help us further strengthen our presence and relationships in our two most important international markets, Germany and the United States,” said Zurich Festival CEO Christian Jungen in a statement, calling Moszkowicz an “inspiring and highly respected international industry leader who will help us further develop the ZFF into a globally recognized brand synonymous with outstanding cinema and a strong connection to the awards season.”
Moszkowicz is best known on the international scene for his more than 30 years at Constantin Film, the Munich-based mini-major he joined in 1990 and ran as chairman from 2014 through 2024. At Constantin, he oversaw the production of hundreds of films, including most of the era’s crossover success stories out of Germany, such as the Oscar-nominated Downfall (2004) and The Baader Meinhof Complex (2008) as well as the bulk of Germany’s home-grown blockbusters, including the hugely popular Fack Ju Goehte franchise. At Constantin, Moszkowicz also produced dozens of international features, most famously the Resident Evil films. In 2022 he received a lifetime “Career Achievement in Film” honor from CinemaCon.
Moszkowicz stepped down as chairman at Constantin in March 2024, though he continues to work with the company as a producer.
Commenting on his new position at ZFF, Moszkowicz said the festival has, in recent years, “established itself as a permanent fixture on the European festival calendar. With its clear commitment to high-quality cinema and its close connection to the international awards season, it has the potential to grow into a globally recognised brand in the years ahead.” He highlighted the ZFF’s industry section, the Zurich Summit, sometimes called the “Davos of the film industry” as a “leading platform for the global film business” that offers “significant potential for further growth.”
Joining Moszkowicz on the ZFF board of directors are Claudia Lässer, CEO of Swiss media group Entertainment Programm AG, and Swiss writer/director Sabine Boss (Open Season, I Am the Keeper). They join existing board members Thomas Hügi and Felix E. Müller.
The 2026 Zurich Film Festival runs Sept. 24 to Oct. 4. The Zurich Summit runs Sept. 25-27.
