I rebuilt Strava (and Strava Premium) for fun, and now I want your feedback
A · 2026-04-23 · via GoPenAI - Medium
For years I’ve loved Strava, the community, the data, the storytelling behind every workout. But I always felt something was missing: deeper analytics, more flexible filters, richer visualizations, and the ability to explore my training history the way I wanted. So I built my own Strava analytics platform. stravastats.vercel.app Not a clone. Not a competitor. A personal experiment that grew into a full‑featured, multi‑sport analysis tool that now mirrors (and in many cases expands on) Strava Premium features. And now I want you to use it, break it, critique it, follow its development, and help shape what comes next. If you’re a runner, cyclist, swimmer, triathlete, data nerd, or just someone who loves training insights, this project is for you. Why I Built This Strava is fantastic, but it’s optimized for social engagement, not deep analysis. I wanted: More control over filters More granular charts More cross‑sport comparisons More historical context More transparency in training load metrics More fun exploring my own data So I built a full analytics suite on top of the Strava API, with the goal of replicating as many Strava Premium features as possible, and then going beyond them. This is a community‑driven project, not a commercial one. Your feedback will directly shape the roadmap. What You Can Do With It Below is a complete overview of everything the app currently offers , tab by tab. If you love data, you’ll feel at home. Dashboard — Your Training at a Glance A fully customizable overview of your training load, consistency, and progress. Filters Quick ranges (week, 7d, 30d, 3m, 6m, year, 365d) From/to date Acute load mode (conservative/aggressive) Stats Total activities, distance, time Longest activity Sport mix CTL / ATL / TSB / injury risk Goal progress (distance, hours, or activity count) Charts Acute Load chart Consistency heatmap Load time series Goal progress Run — Deep Running Analytics Filters Date range Shoe filter Stats Total runs, distance, time, elevation Average pace, HR, speed Shoe usage metrics Charts Monthly distance Pace vs distance Distance & elevation histograms Weekly rolling trends Heatmaps Shoe‑usage Gantt Sortable activities table Bike — Power, Speed, Elevation, and More Filters Date range Bike filter Stats Distance, time, elevation Avg speed, cadence, power, HR Breakdown by bike type (road, gravel, MTB, indoor, electric) Charts Bike‑type pie Speed vs distance Power vs speed Elevation ratio Weekly trends Heatmaps Activities table Swim — Pool and Open Water Insights Stats Total swims, distance, time Pace per 100m HR Pool vs open water comparison Pool length estimation Charts Distance & pace histograms Pace vs distance (pool/OW) Swims table Athlete — Your Lifetime Training Profile Stats Profile info All‑time totals Records (longest, fastest, most elevation) Time‑of‑day preferences Solo vs group HR & power zones Charts Start‑time histogram Duration histogram Yearly comparison Weekly/monthly mix Time matrices (hour x day, year x month, etc.) Predictor — Race Time Estimation Combines Riegel, VDOT, and your personal history. Context Global training summary PBs Gear Recent activities Monthly volume Features Persistent chat Custom prompts Training insights Why I’m Sharing This Because I want this to become a community project. I want: Feedback: what works, what’s missing, what’s confusing Criticism : UI, UX, metrics, performance Ideas : new charts, new models, new tabs Contributors : devs, designers, athletes, data scientists Testers : people who train regularly and want better analytics If you love Strava but wish it gave you more control, this is your chance to help shape something new. How You Can Help Try the app Break it Tell me what sucks Tell me what’s great Suggest features Report bugs Share it with training friends Follow the project Contribute on GitHub (coming soon) This is a passion project , and the more people use it, the better it becomes. Let’s Build the Ultimate Strava Analytics Tool Together If you’ve ever wished Strava had deeper insights, richer charts, or more flexible filters, I think you’ll enjoy exploring this project. And if you’re a developer, designer, or data geek, I’d love your help pushing it further. Your feedback will directly shape the next version. Ready to dive in? Let me know, I’m excited to hear what you think. https://github.com/alexgasconn/StravaStats I rebuilt Strava (and Strava Premium) for fun, and now I want your feedback was originally published in GoPenAI on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.
