Zendaya on Clement, Boots on a boat, and does Kesha know Mill Valley is not in SF?
Emily Dreyfuss · 2026-05-30 · via The San Francisco Standard

When pop star Kesha told a Presidio crowd last month that she was moving to San Francisco, The Standard dutifully wondered which neighborhood she’d pick — the Lower Haight? The Castro, which we saw as her spiritual homeland?

Reader, we are now getting reports that the answer is … Mill Valley.

According to sources in the neighborhood, Kesha seems to have rented a house in Marin’s bougiest burb, home to lip-filler beauties in cashmere yoga outfits carrying baguettes in $400 tote bags. Look, we can all agree Mill Valley is gorgeous. It has the redwoods, the farmers market, a very cool library where one Waggle correspondent has given book talks. It is also the place where many a former San Francisco party girl — the kind who may have danced on tables scream-singing to lyrics like “Before I leave, brush my teeth with a bottle of Jack” — has moved when they are ready to enter their domestic tranquility era.

But one thing Mill Valley is not is in San Francisco.

Sources in the area tell The Waggle Kesha is, by all accounts, a “gracious and lovely” neighbor.

We extend a warm Bay Area welcome to our newest Marin resident. The ferry runs twice an hour from Larkspur. The Castro will be waiting.

Zendaya-induced euphoria in the Richmond

This week, a Zendaya fan posted to TikTok (opens in new tab) to gush about running into her idol on Clement Street. Zendaya was spotted Wednesday afternoon shopping with her Euphoria co-star Hunter Schafer at Aroma Tea Shop. The Oakland native — who rivals our other bestie Alyssa Liu in her ability to effortlessly exude Bay Area pride — was seen with a Green Apple Books tote slung over her shoulder.

Others who had seen Zendaya around town this week jumped into the comments with their own sightings. One person reportedly saw her on Monday at indie perfumery Ministry of Scent in the Mission, where the staff was apparently stunned into silence.

Four young women stand closely together inside a shop, smiling in front of shelves filled with various metal tins and colorful packaging.

The Richmond is where all the celebs shop, apparently

It was a normal Wednesday night in San Francisco’s Richmond District. Customers were sparse as closing time approached at a traditional Chinese grocery store known for its imported goods and wet market.

While shopping for noodles, bok choy, and eggs for a simple dinner, The Waggle was about to check out when we spotted someone familiar browsing the instant noodle aisle: Eileen Gu, the Olympic free skier, fashion supermodel, Chinese New Year’s Parade Grand Marshall, and San Francisco native, who has drawn international attention and geopolitical controversy as a U.S.-born athlete who competes for China in the Olympics.

But nevermind all that, what was she wearing? Gu was dressed casually in a dark green Louis Vuitton sweatshirt (she is an ambassador for the brand), a white skirt, and sneakers. The Waggle said hi to her, and she was super nice in response.

There you have it: at one of the city’s most low-profile ethnic grocery stores, one of the world’s most famous athletes was shopping for discount authentic Chinese flavors. Celebrities: They really are like us.

Boots Riley is everywhere right now

Oakland filmmaker Boots Riley’s latest, I Love Boosters, is out now, and so, apparently, is he. Last night he was on stage with Alexis Madrigal at City Arts & Lectures, to name just one recent media appearance. But on Monday, The Waggle spotted Riley in a less high-profile setting: boarding the ferry solo at Jack London Square, his signature 2-foot-tall hat announcing his presence to anyone paying attention. On board, he bought two bags of chips and then headed up to the observation deck as the boat pushed off toward the Ferry Building, taking in one of our favorites views of San Francisco.

The Waggle lost him in the departing crowd before we could pay our compliments on the brilliant casting in the movie — Demi Moore as the psychotic narcissistic villain, Keke Palmer as the inspiring, socialist leader of the shoplifting crew. But honestly, that’s OK. Boots may be in the spotlight right now, but he deserves his privacy as he commutes around the Bay.

And finally, a blind item that barks

Can you guess which big time local sports coach was recently repeatedly reprimanded at a live show for barking nonstop at the performers?
