Film fest star search: Keep your head on a swivel for A-listers this week because the SFFilm Festival is back in town. The Waggle is still rubbing its starstruck eyes after a late (for us) opening night at the Castro Theatre Friday. Director and star Olivia Wilde dropped by to talk about her insta-classic couples comedy, “The Invite,” filmed on location in our beloved city, and co-starring Seth Rogen, Penelope Cruz, and Edward Norton. She rocked an incredible dress (opens in new tab)that we can only describe as “sculptural.”

Earlier in the night, Greta Lee, star of “Late Fame” alongside Willem Dafoe, graced the stage with director Kent Jones. The Waggle adored this intimate dramedy that’s on track for a successful wide release. Plus, we loved hearing how Lee’s acting career blossomed here in the city and that she fondly refers to her “egoless” co-star as “Willie.”
Other stars expected around town this week: “Severance” actor Britt Lower, star of “Sender,” and director Boots Riley, appearing in Oakland alongside his “I Love Boosters” cast members LaKeith Stanfield, Poppy Liu, and Eiza Gonzalez. Enjoy the Bay, Hollywood friends!
Shkreli’s baby mama works at OpenAI?: Regular readers of The Waggle know notorious drug-price-hiker (opens in new tab) Martin Shkreli leaped back into the news last week by tweeting that he had dirt on Rep. Ro Khanna. (Said dirt has not materialized.) This week, the previously crowned “most hated man in America” announced he was in our city, so the Waggle asked him out for coffee.
To our surprise, Shkreli claimed via Twitter DM that he now lives in SF, and is in a relationship with an early employee of OpenAI. He claims she is the mother of the baby he allegedly fathered (opens in new tab) late last year, who he boasted on Instagram has been given the name Torque “EZMONEY$TAXX” Shkreli. (Torque, when you grow up, find us and we’ll help ghostwrite your memoir.)
The Waggle could not verify anything Shkreli claimed above (we are dealing with a convicted fraudster here), so if you happen to know anything about this, please drop us a line. Fatherhood, for what it’s worth, does seem to have tamed Shkreli: The Waggle had an amiable chat with the “Pharma Bro,” with only one mention of “boning babes.”
Notion seeks cultural domination: Notion, the decade-old note-taking and productivity app, has quietly been making a play for cultural cachet: First, by shelling out six figures to rename a dusty alley in the Sunset “The Notion Way,” and now, by hosting invite-only parties at its swanky SOMA offices. On Tuesday, Notion cofounder and COO Akshay Kothari circulated among dozens of guests at the first “Notion After Hours” in a casual button-down sweater and jeans. He joked that the company threw the event “because we needed more friends.”
Influencers Jason Yeager of @mytechceo, “The Log” podcast host Corbin Braun, and Cole Lee, the recent Stanford grad behind @covacut, mingled in the Dawn Club’s leather booths to the sound of a live jazz trio, talking about their latest videos and — what else? — their favorite AI tools. (Yeager mentioned he was a fan of Notion competitor Granola before a friend caught him and suggested he leave that out.)
Biblical benefactors: On Wednesday night, Arion Press, an SF printing press specializing in bespoke copies of contemporary art books, held a swanky dinner at Gallery 308 in Fort Mason for the benefactors who contributed to its latest project: a hand-bound, hand-printed version of the Declaration of Independence squeezed down to the size of Thomas Jefferson’s Bible.
Hosting the evening and holding court was designer to the stars Stanlee Gatti. By his side was Laurene Powell Jobs. Also in attendance was Paul Pelosi, SFMOMA board chair Diana Nelson, and Arthur Sze, the Poet Laureate for the United States, who held an artist talk at the after-party. For those looking for their own copy of the declaration, they’ll be available on July 4 for a cool $3,000.
The event was catered by McCalls, which seems to provide food for every highfalutin event The Waggle attends, and featured a decadent menu inspired by Jefferson’s post-Paris years. Among the dishes was the Guinea Hen Stuffed with Wild Mushroom, Mélange of Petit Pois & Asparagus, and vanilla ice cream (yes, we fact-checked that Jefferson did in fact enjoy ice cream (opens in new tab)).
Merch is dead: In this week’s “we live in hell” update, Palantir — the Peter Thiel-founded surveillance company whose recent hits include helping ICE deport immigrants — is now a clothier. The company launched a “lightweight chore coat (opens in new tab)” this week that looks like, uh, off-brand Carhartt? It is unclear how fashionable workwear will help Palantir’s mission of building the authoritarian surveillance state, but Eliano A. Younes, Palantir’s head of strategic engagement, told GQ (opens in new tab): “We want millions of people wearing Palantir merch around the world.” Terrifying.
The hits don’t stop there, because apparently the company also sells a $75 T-shirt featuring the face of its CEO, Alex Karp. According to The Wall Street Journal (opens in new tab), executive-worshipping attire is the new trend in Silicon Valley, where tech devotees are also shelling out $178 for a sweater featuring a cartoon rendering of Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, and $79.99 for a Hawaiian shirt (opens in new tab) inspired by Anduril founder Palmer Luckey. (The latter is currently sold out.) The Waggle knows San Francisco takes a lot of heat for its hoodie-and-puff-jacket non-fashions, but we’ll take that over this.
A local gem: An eagle-eyed scenester wrote in to ask if everybody already knows that Sofia Jewelry on Miller Avenue in Mill Valley made Lady Gaga (opens in new tab)’s engagement ring (opens in new tab), the massive oval-cut stunner with a pink ombré diamond pavé band that she debuted at the Venice Film Festival last year. The family-run shop, a Mill Valley cornerstone since 1994, is so proud of the commission that it’s labeled a tab on its website “Gaga.” As The Standard previously reported, Gaga’s Marin residency is an open secret at this point, so it makes sense she’d trust the neighborhood jeweler with the most important rock in the county.
She found her person: When The Standard profiled Joyce Zhang last August, the MIT grad turned dating coach for high performers was guiding SF’s anxious overachievers through her Hot Feelings events while still single herself — a fact she admitted she was nervous to share. Cut to 2026: Zhang just announced (opens in new tab) her engagement! Her fiancé Alex Gruver, co-founder of Jhourney, an ed-tech meditation company, proposed at Fort Funston — one of their early date spots. They met, naturally, on Hinge. The Waggle offers its warmest congratulations and notes that Zhang’s clients will surely find her whole romantic arc very motivating.
She found her person, Part II: Zhang’s not the only influencer off the market. SF’s own Carrie Bradshaw, Danielle Walter, whom The Standard profiled last fall after her viral search for love culminated in a boyfriend announcement, is now engaged and wedding dress shopping. Naturally, she’s bringing her 2.1 million followers across TikTok and Instagram along for every dress. The Walnut Army (opens in new tab), a 29,000-strong Reddit community obsessed with hating her, has opinions, naturally.
A rave in … Cow Hollow?: Max Styler, a rising electronic dance music star, pulled a surprise DJ set at Union Street’s Bus Stop Saloon, fresh off his Coachella debut and prior to his two shows this weekend at the Regency Ballroom. The EDM bros all showed up, packing the place to the brim with Cow Hollow boy energy. One attendee texted their friend from the scene, “I’m here and it’s completely fucked, obviously.”

Swisher gets busy: The Waggle’s spiritual godmother, Kara Swisher, had quite a week. First, the “Pivot” podcast co-host and aviator sunglass model was spotted in the Mission alongside her son, Louie Swisher, stumping for Manny’s cafe owner Manny Yekutiel, who is running for District 8 supervisor. Then, she made her big-screen debut in “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” which premiered at Lincoln Center this week. Swisher filmed a cameo last summer alongside media power players Tina Brown and Molly Jong-Fast, rounding out what the film apparently treats as a trio of formidable editrixes. The movie drops in theaters this Friday.
Ratio’d: After a snoozefest of a debate between six California governor wannabes on Wednesday night, San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan’s wife Silvia Scandar Mahan posted a KRON4 (opens in new tab)straw poll showing her husband leading the governor’s race. Only problem: The poll hadn’t closed, and the results soon changed. X’s “community notes” tool swiftly pointed out that the poll could be gamed by refreshing the page, and that reliable pollsters still have Mahan running in sixth place, garnering only 5% of the vote.
