Passbolt renews its support for MariaDB Foundation - MariaDB.org
Anna Widenius · 2026-06-25 · via MariaDB.org

MariaDB Foundation is pleased to announce that Passbolt has renewed its Silver sponsorship for another year, continuing its long-term support for the MariaDB open-source ecosystem.

Passbolt is an open-source password manager designed for teams, with a strong focus on security, privacy, and user control. Its continued support reflects a shared commitment to building practical, trustworthy open-source infrastructure that organizations can deploy and operate with confidence.

Building on the Privacy-First Stack

During the first year of collaboration, Passbolt became part of the Privacy-First Solution Stack alongside Nextcloud and MariaDB Server.

The stack brings together open-source technologies for secure credential management, collaboration and data storage in a practical architecture designed for organizations that value privacy, control and digital sovereignty.

With the renewed sponsorship, MariaDB Foundation and Passbolt plan to build on that foundation with a stronger focus on practical deployment guidance and production readiness.

The areas identified for future joint work include:

  • disaster recovery;
  • security hardening;
  • production best practices;
  • reference architectures and deployment scenarios;
  • guidance for public-sector and regulated organizations.

These topics respond directly to the needs of organizations moving from initial evaluation to real-world implementation.

From architecture to deployment

Solution Stacks are designed to show how mature open-source technologies can work together to solve practical problems.

The next phase of the Passbolt collaboration will focus on helping users understand how to deploy, secure and operate the Privacy-First Stack in production environments.

This may include joint technical content, implementation guidance, deployment examples and practical recommendations from both the Passbolt and MariaDB communities.

“Passbolt’s continued support is especially valuable because our collaboration is now moving from an architectural concept toward practical deployment guidance,” said Anna Widenius, CEO of MariaDB Foundation. “The Privacy-First Stack gives us a strong foundation, and the next step is to help organizations deploy it securely, reliably and with confidence.”

Remy Bertot, CTO of Passbolt, said:

“Supporting the MariaDB Foundation is a long-term commitment for Passbolt, and we are pleased with how the collaboration is evolving. The Privacy-First Stack gives us a strong angle to build on, particularly around practical topics such as disaster recovery, high availability, security hardening and production best practices.”

Continued support for open-source infrastructure

Passbolt’s renewed sponsorship helps MariaDB Foundation continue its work supporting MariaDB Server, its contributors and the wider ecosystem around it.

The Foundation’s work includes maintaining essential development infrastructure, supporting contributors, improving testing and quality processes, developing ecosystem resources and helping organizations discover practical ways to deploy MariaDB Server as part of broader open-source solutions.

MariaDB Foundation thanks Passbolt for its continued support and looks forward to expanding the collaboration over the coming year.
