Kindle Energy has begun construction of the $1.2bn Wolf Summit Energy power generation facility in Harrison County, West Virginia, US.

The company is developing the 600MW greenfield combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plant in partnership with Blackstone Energy Transition Partners.

The plant, which received its final investment decision in November 2025, is fully contracted to supply power to the Old Dominion Electric Cooperative (ODEC), providing electricity to approximately 1.5 million residents in Virginia, Delaware and Maryland.

Officials expect the construction phase to generate 500 jobs locally, with further contributions to the area’s economic activity anticipated by the state’s leadership.

Kindle Energy and Blackstone state that the facility will utilise advanced natural gas technology from GE Vernova.

Kindle Energy CEO Lee Davis said: “Kindle Energy is excited to bring Wolf Summit to West Virginia to serve ODEC and generate efficient and reliable power supply across the region. We look forward to our continued partnership with Blackstone, ODEC, GE Vernova and the local community as we progress construction.”

West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey attended the groundbreaking alongside representatives from the companies involved.

The Wolf Summit development aligns with the state’s broader energy capacity expansion plan, identified as the ’50 by 50′ initiative, which proposes to increase West Virginia’s total energy output to 50GW by 2050.

Project officials link the power station to this plan, noting its role in serving increased regional demand, including energy needs from sectors such as data centres.

Morrisey said: “By building the first-ever combined-cycle natural gas plant in the history of our state, we are beginning another era of energy ascension. Wolf Summit is proof that the world’s biggest investors see their future here in the Mountain State.”

In February, Blackstone finished building the Magnolia Power Generating Station, a greenfield CCGT plant in Plaquemine, Louisiana, with an approximate capacity of 694MW.
