Before portraying the plastic surgeon opposite Hunter Schafer in the HBO Max drama, Trammell rose to fame as Sam Merlotte in the vampire series
Sam Trammell, known for starring as Sam Merlotte in the hit HBO vampire series True Blood, is adding yet another beloved HBO title to his credentials. The actor is introduced in the third episode of Euphoria’s latest season as Hunter Schafer’s character Jules’ sugar daddy Ellis, a wealthy and somewhat mysterious plastic surgeon.

Returning after a four-year hiatus, the show’s highly anticipated third and final season has been criticised for its arguably gratuitous, X-rated scenes involving Sydney Sweeney’s character, Cassie.
More recently, an NSFW scene involving Ellis wrapping Jules in cling wrap from head to toe left fans puzzled and sparked a number of articles explaining the BDSM practice known as “mummification”.

But despite all the criticism directed towards the show, viewers can’t seem to look away. As fans gear up for the latest episode of Euphoria, here’s what to know about the show’s latest newcomer, Sam Trammell.

Sam Trammell was born in January 1969 to a surgeon father, and a homemaker and artist mother. Trammell’s family moved around a lot when he was a child as his father took on stints at various hospitals across America.
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal in 2020, Trammell recounts imitating people as a child and his love of holding an audience. He also played bass guitar in a rock band throughout high school.
The importance of education having been instilled in him by his mother, Trammell attended an Ivy League school – Brown University. It was during his senior year there that a fellow classmate urged him to audition for a student production. Trammell was 22 when he starred in his first play.
