Football has always had a way of slipping out of the stadium and into everyday life. Case in point: New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani attended Eid al-Adha prayers in the Bronx last month wearing a custom kurta inspired by Arsenal’s 2025–26 away kit. The internet, predictably, spiralled when he later followed it up with an op-ed in The Athletic, doubling down on his allegiance to the club.

But it’s not just Mamdani’s take on “blokecore” that has caught our attention. (Blokecore referring to the fashion aesthetic where football jerseys are adapted into everyday streetwear that exploded in 2022, and that’s now having a second wind.) It’s fashion’s growing obsession with the sport.
From luxury houses like Loewe to iconic designers and sportswear giants, everyone seems to want a piece of the pitch. With the Fifa World Cup 2026 kicking off in a few days, taking place across the US, Canada and Mexico – the first tournament to be jointly hosted by three nations – here are some of our favourite fashion x football collaborations for the event.

As part of Nike’s X2 initiative, which pairs seven designers with seven national teams to create capsule collections, the sporting giant tapped Paris-based designer Simon Porte Jacquemus for the French national team.
Leaning fully into the team’s “Les Bleus” nickname, the collection’s highlight is a prematch jersey featuring royal blues with red and white pinstripes, and the Gallic rooster sitting proud on the left side of the chest.
