The May showers have arrived, and with them the full seasonal package: thunder, grey skies and humidity that seems to cling to everything.

But before you decide to hide from the rain at home, here is a list of indoor activities around Hong Kong to try for some good, dry fun, including one of the most anticipated annual art fairs, a whisky festival and a pickleball and Pilates session to a soundtrack of Justin Bieber’s greatest hits.

1. Affordable Art Fair

The Affordable Art Fair returns to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre for its 13th edition from May 14 to 17, with thousands of original contemporary artworks from paintings and sculptures to photography, all priced between HK$1,000 and HK$100,000 (US$130-US$12,800).

Beyond being a marketplace, the fair will feature various activities and installations, including “Ever Near”, Hong Kong singer Stephy Tang Lai-yan’s collection about emotional resonance, and Wesley Wong’s installation Mirror in the City, which explores rain as an introspective outlet.

The fair also marks the debut of the “Pieces of Hong Kong” photography project, where six local photographers, including Derry Ainsworth and Jeremy Cheung, capture the city’s multi-layered identity through their lenses.

Workshops will be hosted alongside the galleries. Visitors can partake in creative activities from printmaking and sip-and-sketch workshops to live painting sessions. During the Family Mornings, on Saturday and Sunday between 10am and 12pm, children under 16 can enter for free if accompanied by a ticketed adult.
