Ice hockey, a love triangle and the fake-dating trope … Prime Video’s latest show, Off Campus, brings together all the best elements of some of the internet’s favourite romance shows (Heated Rivalry, The Summer I Turned Pretty and Maxton Hall) from the past few years.
Adapted from author Elle Kennedy’s book series of the same name, Off Campus follows Briar University’s hockey-hating music major, Hannah Wells (Ella Bright), who strikes up a fake relationship with hockey captain Garrett Graham (Belmont Cameli) to make her long-time crush Justin Kohl, played by Josh Heuston, jealous.
One of the key characters in Hannah’s story is her best friend, Allie Hayes, played by actress Mika Abdalla. In one striking scene, Allie – who’s a theatre and performance art major at Briar U – dresses up as Jennifer Lopez for a Halloween party.
She can be seen wearing a dress that closely resembles J. Lo’s green silk chiffon Versace number that she wore to the 2000 Grammy Awards.
The scene not only caught the attention of Allie’s potential love interest, hockey player Dean Di Laurentis (played by Stephen Kalyn), but also of Lopez herself, who reposted a clip of Allie on X, writing, “Love this shooooww.”
