The internet might be swooning over Jaafar Jackson’s performance in the titular role, but 12-year-old Valdi is grabbing attention too

Director Antoine Fuqua’s new Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, starring the late King of Pop’s nephew and Jermaine Jackson’s son Jaafar Jackson in the titular role, is taking the box office by storm. The film has already grossed US$218.8 million worldwide as of April 27, according to Deadline, with a reported budget of around US$200 million.

Despite the film receiving mixed reviews from critics, it is undeniable that the 29-year-old Jaafar shines in his debut role. Meanwhile, child actor Juliano Valdi, 12, who portrays the younger version of the superstar, is also attracting attention – not only for his authentic performance but also for his vocal resemblance to the “Billie Jean” singer.

Here’s everything to know about Valdi.

What’s his background?

The actor was born Juliano Krue Valdi on February 2, 2014, in the United States. He grew up in a tight-knit family, per 1883 Magazine. “One of my favourite memories growing up is spending time with my family and having fun together,” the young star told the outlet. “Whether we’re watching movies, joking around or dancing in the living room, those are the moments I always remember.”

He’s a Michael Jackson fan

Valdi was first introduced to Michael Jackson by his grandmother when he was around four years old, he revealed in an interview with CNN. The music video for the 1987 hit “Smooth Criminal” sparked his fascination – so much so that he taught himself how to dance and, within a year, was able to emulate the 13-time Grammy winner’s moves, per Extra.
