The indefatigable Ceci Lee Sze-wing added another two bronzes to her medal haul from the breathless Japan Track Cup on Saturday.
An omnium silver medallist on Friday night following one of the best points races of her career, Lee was brought back down to earth the following morning when she managed only sixth in a scratch race won by Tsuyaka Uchino.
Responding to that setback, the increasingly resilient Hongkonger claimed elimination-race bronze behind Japan’s Yumi Kajihara and China’s Chen Ning before matching that result in a points race where she was tied with perennial rival and eventual gold medallist Kajihara before the decisive final sprint. Uchino stole in for silver.
“It was a strong performance and very close at the end,” Herve Dagorne, the Hong Kong head coach, said.
‘It’s been a very good programme for her, and there’s been no issue with having so many races – it’s the same for all the riders.”
Lee had also exhibited her powers of recovery to climb the field for omnium silver. A poor-tempo race, where a misjudgment led to her not contesting the final sprint, left Lee trailing down in eighth midway through the four-discipline event.
