5 of the best things to do in Hong Kong on Labour Day wee...

This Labour Day long weekend may seem like the perfect time to catch up on some sleep, but you know what they say about Hong Kong, right?

Whether you are in the mood for eating your way through a French alpine market, shaking off pre-race nerves with a Pilates-and-ice-bath combo, hunting down a rare Pokemon in Lai Chi Kok, or browsing ancient jade between glasses of wine in Wan Chai, this weekend has got you covered.

Here is what is worth getting off the sofa for.

1. French GourMay

As a centrepiece of the long-running French May Arts Festival, French GourMay will return to Hong Kong and Macau for its 17th edition from this weekend, taking over the cities’ top tables, bars and food markets throughout May.

In Hong Kong, the first market will be hosted at Central Market until May 3, with a second instalment planned for Food Parc in Wan Chai’s Hopewell Mall in late May. Each will offer artisan cheeses, charcuterie, Alpine wines and live cooking demonstrations.

This year, the festival is hosted in collaboration with more than 150 partner restaurants and retailers, and sets its sights on Savoie, the Alpine region in eastern France. There will be curated menus, pairing dinners and workshops. Expect cocktail masterclasses built around French spirits, guided tastings led by visiting producers and cooking workshops at dedicated learning centres throughout the month.
