The manager of a Hong Kong secondary school whose principal swore at security guards during a student trip to Singapore has said the incident will be investigated, but it is too early to decide whether any disciplinary action will be taken.

Edmund Wong Chun-sek, a former lawmaker and school manager of San Wui Commercial Society Secondary School in Tuen Mun, added that the school wanted to ensure students on the trip were not affected by the incident.

His remarks came after education authorities demanded a written report from the school following a viral video that appeared to show its principal, Lee Cheuk-hing, swearing at security guards during the trip to Singapore.

“We, the school sponsoring body and the whole school, will cooperate with the Education Bureau in its investigation,” Wong said, adding that the incident occurred on the third day of the trip.

He said the school board did not wish to jump to conclusions as the comments were currently based on a video that was less than a minute long.

Asked whether the principal would be subject to any disciplinary action or even be dismissed, Wong said it was “too early to tell”.
