In late April, the Singapore Yachting Festival drew 14,280 visitors and saw 211 marine brands moored in the salt-rimmed, tropical heat of One°15 Marina Sentosa Cove. Bobbing on the emerald waters were luxurious yachts aplenty to see, explore and experience. But as much as they impress at the docks, these sleek vessels are meant for life on the waves. So, where is one to take one’s superyacht? We ask the best in the business, from dealers and builders to captains and marina operators, for their takes on where to set your sights for the ideal sea-bound escape.

HONG KONG

DOUBLE HAVEN (YAN CHAU TONG)

“There’s plenty to explore in Hong Kong! Double Haven is a great spot. A lot of people come from Tai Po, the closest pier. It’s surrounded by wilderness, so it’s quiet and the water is nice. There is a great restaurant that serves Hakka food, called Fook Lee Tea House, which offers a tender boat [to ferry guests from the yacht to the Sam A public pier], if you don’t have one.

“When [Britain’s then-prince] Charles was in Hong Kong, his boat [the Royal Yacht Britannia] was stationed in Double Haven and he’d be sent by helicopter back from Central to his vessel. He even painted a watercolour picture of Double Haven in 1989.”

Getting there: head to the bay from Ap Chau public pier, Lai Chi Wo pier, Kat O (Crooked Island) pier or Sha Tau Kok pier
