The 35-year-old appears alongside Dr Michael ‘Robby’ Robinavitch (Noah Wyle) and Victoria Javadi (Shabana Azeez), and starred in Catch-22 with George Clooney

Gerran Howell’s The Pitt character, Dr Whitaker, has gotten some of the most character development on the show since its second season premiered in January.

Better known by his nickname “Huckleberry” (a reference to his country bumpkin background), Nebraska-born Whitaker spent the first season of the hit medical drama as a nervous fourth-year medical student at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center working alongside Dr Michael “Robby” Robinavitch (Noah Wyle), Victoria Javadi (Shabana Azeez) and more.

During the Emmy-winning show’s latest season, we see Howell’s Dr Whitaker return to The Pitt as a more confident first-year resident at the hospital.

The season’s finale is set to air on April 16 – and HBO Max has already confirmed a third season, with Howell expected to return to reprise his role.

Here’s everything you need to know about The Pitt actor.

Gerran Howell was born in February 1991, in Wales, UK. He got into acting at an early age. Between the ages of eight and 10 years old, his mother’s best friend, a high school drama teacher, would cast him to play small roles in her school’s productions, Howell revealed during a January appearance on The Today Show.

He made his on-screen acting debut in the 2006 film Crusade in Jeans and soon landed the starring role as the titular character in the TV series, Young Dracula Files, which aired in 2012.

In 2011, Howell attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and went on to land roles in shows including the BBC’s Some Girls and Ludwig. He also starred in the miniseries Catch-22 alongside George Clooney.
