Matt Cornett, Olivia Rodrigo’s co-star in a spin-off of the award-winning High School Musical franchise, has been gaining attention recently for his role in Every Year After. The series pairs Cornett with British actress Sadie Soverall in a romance that has already been dubbed “the next The Summer I Turned Pretty”.
Fans have been quick to note the chemistry between Cornett and Soverall, which has spilled over into interviews and red-carpet appearances. They’ve sung each other’s praises, fuelling speculation that the romance might not be confined to the screen. “Sadie is an adorable dork, and nerd, and I love her to death,” Cornett told People magazine.

The show is based on Canadian writer Carley Fortune’s novel, Every Summer After, and centres around the relationship between Percy Fraser (Soverall) and Sam Florek (Cornett), best friends and former loves at the lakeside town of Barry’s Bay. All eight episodes of the show premiered on Amazon Prime Video on June 10, and many are already speculating about a season two, though the show hasn’t been officially renewed yet as of writing.
Here’s everything you need to know about Matt Cornett.

Cornett was last publicly known as being in a relationship back in 2019, when he made a birthday tribute to his then-girlfriend, model and actress Brookelynn Elizabeth, in an Instagram post that has since been deleted. He had begun starring in Disney+ series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series then.
Since that break-up, however, Cornett has kept things low-key. Though he recently revealed that he and former co-star Olivia Rodrigo still text, it appears that they have kept things platonic – the latter’s most recent confirmed boyfriend was Louis Partridge.
Last May, Cornett appeared on the Pucker Up with Joely Live show, where he confirmed he was single. “People wanted to know. They were like, “What’s going on over there in your love life?” the host said. “Nothing,” Cornett answered. He also said in the same interview he once had a crush in 2022, but didn’t reveal the person’s name. However, the actor was working with Isabella Blake-Thomas, his co-star and writer of the movie Karma: Death at Latigo Springs, at around that time, per JustJared.
