Frankie Lor Fu-chuen is thrilled to have the services of Joao Moreira once again aboard Everyone’s Star as he looks to go one better in the second section of the Class Three Siu Ma Shan Handicap (1,400m) at Sha Tin on Sunday.

Moreira rode the consistent son of Puissance de Lune to his first and only local victory last season, and was beaten by the impressive hype horse Sky Jewellery by a length and a quarter last start with Moreira in the saddle.

While the five-year-old will shoulder the top weight of 134lb, he has proved he’s capable of running well with big weights throughout the season.

Lor is delighted by the availability of Moreira, who is Caspar Fownes’ retained rider and only permitted to take other rides if Fownes either does not have a contender – or an appropriately weighted runner – in a race.

Joao Moreira returns after winning aboard Everyone’s Star at Sha Tin.

“This horse has been very unlucky this season – two times he’s been beaten really narrowly,” Lor said.

“Joao won on this horse last season, so last start I asked Joao to ride for me again. He still finished second, beaten by the other good horse [Sky Jewellery], so I asked him again ‘please can you ride one more time for me’. I’m lucky he can ride for me again.”

Run Run Sunrise has been ultra-consistent when running down the 1,000m straight at Sha Tin, and seeks his second win for Lor in the Class Four Cheung Shan Handicap over the same distance.

The lightly raced son of Capitalist will have the advantage of Nichola Yuen Hang-yiu’s 10lb claim, bringing his weight down to 125lb.

“This time I put the 10lb claimer on. I hope it can help him a little bit because he’s only a three-year-old and he always carries big weights, and he will carry 125lb now. I think it’s a big help for the young horse,” Lor said.

Recent stable transfer Absolute Honour will have his third start for Lor as he looks to go back-to-back in the Class Four Port Shelter Handicap (1,800m) following his maiden victory last start by three quarters of a length over Mega Mastermind.

Zac Purton takes the reins once again as the son of Saxon Warrior steps up in trip.

“I’m lucky to get this horse. Last time he got a good draw, draw one. He just followed the leader and then in the straight, just came out and only passed one horse,” Lor said.

Run Run Sunrise, ridden by Derek Leung Ka-chun, scores at Sha Tin.

“Now he goes up to 1,800m because Zac told me ‘I think he can handle 1,800m no problem, we can try’. So this time we put him at 1,800m and this time he draws eight – but usually he jumps good. I think we’ll try to get some cover and sit maybe sit third or fourth.”

The elusive Better And Better seeks his second career victory in the second section of the Class Four Luk Wu Handicap (1,200m), after being crunched in betting and disappointing punters several times.

The Shamus Award galloper goes into the race having trialled since last start, when he ran second to impressive winner Mr Incredible.

“He’s already won once for me and I hope he can win again, he performs good. He only has a short sprint, so the jockeys need to wait a little bit more and then sprint,” Lor said.

Run Run Smart will also benefit from Yuen’s 10lb claim when he jumps from barrier nine with 125lb in the second section of the Class Four Lung Fu Shan Handicap (1,400m).

“This horse also came in with a big weight and we used the 10lb claimer. Last time he drew one, this time he draws nine. I will try to ask Nichola to jump good and lead by himself,” Lor said.

Voyage Boss is the victim of another wide draw, jumping from barrier 12 in the first section of the Class Four Lung Fu Shan Handicap.

“This horse always draws wide,” Lor said.

“At 1,400m maybe he still has a little bit of time to jump good and go a bit forward, see if he has any luck or not. Last time, he followed the fast pace, and then he finished fourth – but we need some luck.”

Better And Better, ridden by Alexis Badel, wins at Sha Tin.

Purton will jump on board Savvy Brilliant once again in the Class Three Hong Kong Lions Cup (1,200m) when the Toronado galloper seeks his third Hong Kong victory – the first two of which were under Purton.

The five-year-old returned from an enforced break last start after bleeding from both nostrils at the New Year’s Day meeting.

“After a break last start he went good. You could see down the straight in the last 200-300m, he couldn’t get a winning run,” Lor said.

“He followed Zac’s pattern [on Cool Boy], he just waited for Zac but couldn’t push. That’s why this time Zac asked ‘could I ride this horse for you?’, and I said ‘of course you can ride this horse because you won on him two times’.”

Enjoy Golf rounds out Lor’s Sha Tin runners in the Class Five Eagle’s Nest Handicap (1,200m).
