Hong Kong’s Siobhan Haughey has broken the meet record in the women’s 200m freestyle at the Bergen Swim Festival in Norway.

Haughey’s time of one minute, 54.31 seconds not only won gold but was also her fastest time in almost two years.

The previous meet record of 1:54.77 was set by Haughey’s Swedish rival Sarah Sjostrom. Haughey’s swim also moved her to third-fastest in the world this season, and is just 0.39 seconds off her own Asian record of 1:53.92, which she set at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

Finishing second behind Haughey in Friday’s race was American Anna Peplowski in 1:55.82, while Sweden’s Sofia Astedt took third in 1:59.67.

Haughey also claimed silver in the 100m freestyle at the same event this weekend, touching the wall in 52.40 seconds on Saturday. Netherlands’ Marrit Steenbergen won the event in 52.33, with Czechia’s Barbora Janickova finishing third in 53.90.

At Bergen, she is also set to race in the 50m freestyle as well as the 50m and 100m breaststroke over the coming days.
