Meet Juan Pablo Raba, who plays Dutton Ranch’s Joaquin, and stars in Netflix’s Narcos

The Colombian actor plays the son of the Duttons’ rivals in the Paramount+ Yellowstone spin-off, was in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and has a mental health podcast

Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe keeps expanding. After his hit neo-Western TV show aired its series finale in December 2024, Paramount+ premiered its spin-off Marshals in March this year on top of its two existing prequel series 1883 (2021-2022) and 1923 (2022-2025).

The latest show to join the Sheridanverse is Yellowstone spin-off, Dutton Ranch, which sees actors Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser reprise their roles as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler. It premiered on May 15, and follows Dutton and Wheeler as they leave Montana after the sale of Yellowstone Ranch. The couple settle down in South Texas to start a life of their own, but quickly run into problems with a rival ranch.

With the first season nearing its end, things are heating up between Beth Rip, and their rival ranch’s owner Beulah Jackson (played by Annette Bening) and her son Joaquin, played by Juan Pablo Raba. The show recently revealed that Joaquin is not actually Jackson’s biological son – he’s adopted.

As fans gear up for the show’s finale on July 3, here’s everything you need to know about the actor behind Dutton Ranch’s Juan Pablo Raba.

How did Juan Pablo Raba get into acting?

Juan Pablo Raba was born in Colombia and raised in Spain. He later moved back to Colombia where he studied acting, before moving to New York to continue to hone his talents at the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute. He then spent several years as a telenovela actor back in Venezuela and Colombia, before moving to Miami and starting to look for different acting roles.

“Why I started looking for another medium to develop my career and craft, is that telenovelas are very long and very intense,” he told Interview Magazine. “I started feeling like I was getting on a train for a year and getting off at the next station and suddenly it’s, ‘Oh my god, a whole year has passed. What did I do?’ You work, work, work, and then your wife grows, and your kid grows, and your friends are doing their plans and you’re just stuck in the studio for so many hours a day.”

In Hollywood, Pablo Raba landed roles in projects such as the ABC series Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2015-16) and the Netflix series Narcos (2015-16) that famously helped make Pedro Pascal a global star.

He is also credited as a producer in several Spanish language TV series and films including Wild District, a crime series, and the 2026 horror film The Whistler.
